she stood in the center of the clearing, looking unusualy sad, and haunted. her eyes where slightly glazed, and her loneliness settled through her as if a cloud was blocking her. but, perhaps she was always like that. pelts brushed her, but she took no notice, instead got to her paws and walked around to the other side of the clearing, as if something were calling to her. lapping of water over the edge of something aroused her. her ears swiveled around her, and they perked sharply in the direction of what she was hearing. though is was nothing of interest, she scrambled from the edge and swept her tail across a bush, snagging it for a heartbeat. she yawned and her eyes glistened again, but only slightly.
she bounded down a slope, narrowly missing a small bush, a hurdle to trip her. but she had bounced over it in time, and she peered around, looking unusualy misunderstood. no one seemed to like her around, and somehow, she didn't feel like she belonged. not anymore. she needed someone to love her. someone who would be her friend. someone.. someone who would actually look at her, with a kind glint in their eyes.
but somehow she knew that wouldn't happen. she was sure of it, but not as sure as she'd like to be. she felt so alone, so unsure of herself, and so very very, cold inside. she had no idea what she had done, why no one liked her, or for one, why she felt so alone. she was a glorious cat, with the pelt the colour of snow. hints of light, barely noticable green fell over her paws, and a faint outline of a feather danced upon her head. almost a teasing guesture, almost like she was a princess. a perfect little kittypet.
vile tasted on her tongue when she thought of the word. kittypet food, a disgusting substance. some said it was soft, others hard. anything other than the feel of fur in her teeth, and the meat filling a mouses center was the other thing she desired. and no she was not a kittypet. she was born a full member of mistclan. there were no other lies of blood in her. or at least, she thought not of that.
but her mind turned to something else. she reminded herself not to ramble in her head. it was useless, and not to mention very annoying. others might have spoken to her, and she wouldn't have heard them.

Walnutpaw let out a wail of frustration as the fish slipped past his claws once again. All he got was a soaking wet pelt and a mouthful of water that he coughed out, feeling his throat sting from the inhaled water that unfortunately went through his windpipe, causing him to choke a bit. Shaking his head in frustration, he gave up trying to catch something to eat and hauled himself back onto the bank, head and tail down in the position of a sulking apprentice. Stomping back onto the shore, he vented his anger at a frond of ferns that he swatted with his tail. Unfortunately, hidden behind the ferns was a tiny thornbush, and he let out a hiss as burrs stuck to his tail and dug into his pelt.
"This is not my day!"he yowled out to the sky to no one particular. He had tried to perfect his technique on catching fish but he, for some reason, couldn't catch a single one. Now he was stuck pulling out thorns painfully from his tail-fur.

yes, she had seen him fail. bubbling amusement flickered over her, though she scolded herself for her rudeness. the poor apprentice was annoyed, and he had not caught anything, by the sounds of it. she padded nimbly over to his flank, peering intently into the water, waiting for the movement of a fish. when a scaled hide flashed in the water, she lashed out with her paw. her claws hooked around the fish's gills, and she flipped it out onto the grass behind her. her dark green eyes settled on walnutpaw, and she smiled slightly.
"do you want me to show you a easy techniqe for catching fish? it might help you a bit." she queried, looking more or less interested in teaching. yes, she had her own apprentice, but she did enjoy teaching others. escpecially those who needed help. she waved her tail, waiting for his response, eager to show things. her gaze rested on the water again, waiting for another fish. Walnutpaw heard the sound of pawsteps and turned to see Jadefeather. Instantly, his face seemed to burn with embarrassment. He wondered if she saw his failure and report it to Wolfsong, his mentor. "I-um..."he began, trying to think of an excuse for his mistakes. But was surprised that she passed by and watched as she skillfully caught a fish with a delicate stroke of her paws.
Wow! The young apprentice was amazed at the warrior's quick technique, but it didn't make him feel any better. How am I supposed to catch fish like her?he thought miserably, ears down.
Then, Jadefeather offered to teach him and his eyes lit up instantly. "You'd do that!"Walnutpaw meowed increadulously, his short tail sticking up.

she seemed to smile slightly when his face lit up with embarassment. although, he seemed to find awe inspiring interest in how she had caught the fish. as she settled down to show him, her deep green eyes held a kindled light, almost welcoming and calm in a way. she let out a soft mew of pleasure when he perked at the thought of help and new ideas for fishing. she hunkered down beside him, then perked her ears, keeping her shadow out of the water. "okay, you have to be very quiet, and keep your shadow out of the water, it'll scare the fish away. see? there's one there.." she whispered, her mew reassuring.
she guided him slightly, and the moved her paws in a way, then hooked out the fish, with a slight struggle, but tossed it to with the other kill. she smiled and nodded to him. "now you try. it's easy, once you get the hang of it. make sure to put strength in hooking it. some of the fish are heavy." she purred, then backed off to give him space to fish on his own. but she stayed close, it was never comfortable when you fell in, even if us cats fished, and sometimes swam. she winked encouragingly, and waited. Walnutpaw padded beside Jadefeather and sat beside the shore, careful not to make his shadow fall across the surface of the water. He was extrememly careful about this and even made his ear flatten so that shadow of his ear tips didn't show up in the river. The light brown tom held his breath as he too spotted the silver fish slip closer and closer. The apprentice watched as Jadefeather scooped it up as if it were no big deal, even more gracefully than before. Wow, she's goodhe thought with admiration. As Jadefeather advised to him after her splendid catch, Walnutpaw realized he had been gazing at her with wide eyes and hanging mouth. Feeling his ears grow hot with embarrassment, he closed his mouth quickly and concentrated his eyes on the water.
He was aware of Jadefeather's presence so close beside him, it made him a bit self-concious. But he diverted his focus back to hunting and saw a flash of silver. Keeping the image of how Jadefeather did it, he quickly shot his paw into the river while keeping his back claws digging into the bank to keep from falling off. The tom felt his claws sink into a soft, wriggling flesh and quickly brought it in. The fish thrashed frantically in an effort to free itself from his thorn sharp claws. Suddenly, Walnutpaw felt his grip slipping and quickly lunged his teeth at the fish before it could fall back into the water. The instant his teeth met the fish's flesh it went limp.
"I-I did it!"he meowed in amazement, eyes shining with pride as he grasped the fish in his jaws, showing Jadefeather.
