Silence walks where none have tread before. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Ebony paws clattered against the small clusters of pebbles on the ground, knocking away some sienna-colored rocks. The young apprentice blinked open emerald eyes, dull and lackluster, still dazed from his sleep.
His senses perked immediately at the scent of fresh kill and the tom resisted the urge to bound towards the pile and pick the fattest prey there was; he was an apprentice now, he still had to follow all the rules. That meant the kits, elders, and queens needed to eat first. A low grumble cut through the silence and the black-and-white apprentice flushed in embarrassment. Maybe he could check...after a few bites first.
Eyes shifting this way and that, Phantompaw slowly slunk towards the pile, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible. He felt his mouth drool at the sight but had enough sense to stop himself. The apprentice carefully chose a small mouse and ravished into it, letting out content hums. After a very satisfying meal, Phantompaw licked his matted bed-fur clean.
"Ah, what a great start to the morning!" he exclaimed, chartreuse eyes gleaming happily. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Walnutpaw blinked awake, screwing up his eyes against the brigth sunlight that streamed into the den. Yawning, he got stiffly up to his paws. Stretching until his muscles felt relaxed, he picked his way past the reed nests and pushed his way out of the den. He emerged and saw Phantompaw already up and near the fresh-kill pile. Guess we're allowed to eat,the apprentice thought with a shrug, padding over.
"Morning,"the light brown tom meowed shyly to Phantompaw, not meeting the other apprentice's gaze. He eased over and picked a small fish from the pile. At first he took an unsure bite, but hunger drove him to finish the meal in quick, ravenous bites. Licking traces of flesh off his whiskers, he stealed a glance at Phantompaw, noticing the mouse carcess at the apprentice's foot.
"So you prefer mouse huh?"Walnutpaw commented, still a bit shy but he decided to strike a conversation anyways.

Dewkit padded around the camp; looking for something new to do. Chasing after a blue feathered butterfly and swatting at it until it fell to the ground miserably in a spiralled arc; Dewkit moved on to chassing after warrior cats tails stealithy.
Now she was padding around the camp and heard the rumble of her stomach scream to her she wanted a mouse in her belly. Padding up to the stock of fresh-kill she saw Phantompaw nibbling on a mouse and looking around continuesly.
Stalking up until she was right onto his backlegs she retorted loudly. "And here I thought that mouse was for me." She said with a giggle. "I guess im just going to have to starve for the rest of the day." Dewkit said dramaticly. Sitting right in front of the tom cat and to the side she smiled at him and flicked her thin tail in his direction.

Silence walks where none have tread before. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Phantompaw groomed his chest fur, unaware of the figure near him. Hearing the voice, the tom slightly jumped, finding Walnutpaw beside him. "Oh. Morning," he greeted. He and the apprentice had never really talked before, so the the tom made sure that their first meeting count. Phantompaw rolled his large green eyes "Well, obviously I prefer something other than fish guts," he meowed dryly. It was only then he noticed Walnutpaw taking out a fish that the tom shrunk back in embarrassment. Nice going, mousebrain! "I-I mean, fish is fine too. I just like a variety for a meal," he quickly replied, resisting the urge to claw himself.
Phantompaw was all too grateful when Dewkit showed up; at least he could steer the conversation somewhere else.
"Morning, Dewkit." At her comment he snorted. "Well too bad. Have some fish instead," he meowed jerking his head toward the pile of prey. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Fortunately, Walnutpaw didn't take it offensively. "Oh I just thought well...since we're Mistclan cats...um..."the light brown tom was also growing a bit embarrased and he hastily meowed, "I guess I prefer fish." Yes he did. The succulent flesh agreed to his taste, though he was never good at catching them like most Mistclan cats. Walnutpaw had found out that he was more skilled at hunting mice, but their musky taste didn't match the freshness of fish.
Walnutpaw perked up when he spotted Dewkit and gave a mew of greeting, flicking his tail. He enjoyed the company of kits. They were often happy and didn't care if you were a good warrior or not, as long as you kept them entertained.
"You won't starve,"the light brown tom responded, pushing a fish towards her. "Here you go."

Dewkit narrowed her eyes at the older cat. "Well maybe I want a mouse." She replied cooly to the apprentice. "Hm... lets see. I just talked to Forestlight and she said she hasnt had any prey yet today." Mistclan sneered at Phantompaw. "Now I wonder who would be interested in this little tid bit of information."
Getting up Dewkit snatched up the bones of the mouse Phantompaw had devoured and sat on them. "Guess Duststorm will have to decide what to do with these bones."
Dewkit gave a little growl as menacing as she could to the older cat to show just because she was a kit doesnt mean she was afraid of a sharp tongued cat. I dont have the best life and you dont make it any easyer. She thought to Phantompaw.
Turning to Walnutpaw she smiled gently. "Sure. Thank you Walnutpaw." Before taking a small bite of the slimy fish she stopped and looked up. "Would you like to share?" She asked him gentle. Glaring at Phantompaw out of the corner of her eye she changed instantly and became a sweet and innocent cat when she faced Walnutpaw.

Silence walks where none have tread before. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Phantompaw felt a bit ashamed that he made the conversation with Walnutpaw so awkward. But the regret and humiliation quickly flew out the window when he heard Dewkit mouth off to him and the tom blinked in surprise. Would she really be so quick to tattle on him that he ate first? The apprentice had a feeling he would squish the little kit if she even tried. But he knew that it wasn't the best resolution to come up with.
"All right! Jeez, calm down! I didn't mean it in a bad way!" he retorted resisting the urge to glower at the smaller cat. Really, he was such an idiot to fight with a kit, he was an apprentice! And to be the best apprentice in MistClan, Phantompaw was supposed to act like a mature, responsible cat. "Look, if it makes you feel any better, I'll go catch hunt my fur off to get some mice for you and Forestlight. If it makes you feel any better." Right. Negotiation was a much better answer. The tom shifted slightly, leaning into Walnutpaw. "You'll help me, right?" he whispered softly trying to be inconspicuous. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Dewkit relaxed a bit as Phantompaw apologized and smiled sheepishly. "Yeah. I'm sorry too. I wasn't really going to get you in trouble. But stop treating me like a kit! I have half a moon left and Ill be an apprentice; So what if I'm smaller then normal. That doesn't mean I cant hunt and be a great warrior let alone apprentice." Dewkit flicked her tail in quick sharp movements that showed the older cats just how annoyed she was at the time.
Dewkit overheard what Phantompaw said to Walnutpaw and perked up excitedly. "Take me with you!!" She said in a high pitched squeak. "I'll behave I promise! And I'll even try to catch something for myself. Please...." She jumped up and down off the ground and pretended to stalk an invisible foe. "Come on! You guys could show me how to hunt and everything!" Dewkit looked from one tom to the other; hoping to see reassurance in their eyes.

Walnutpaw shook his head at Dewkit's offer. "It's okay, I kinda already ate a little,"he mewed, flicking his ears uncomfortably. He'd make up that tiny fish with more mice on the fresh-kill pile. He watched Dewkit and Phantompaw argue a bit, head tilted to one-side as if he were observing a typical family sitcom.
The light brown apprentice heard Phantompaw's plea and nodded back in assent. If he could pride himself in anything, it was his hunting skills for mice. Anything else, especially fish, didn't exactly work out for him.
Unfortunately, Dewkit had heard them, and Walnutpaw's tail flicked in discomfort. Kits were not allowed out of camp, and Dewkit was no exception. Walnutpaw glanced at Phantompaw, hoping he could let the young she-kit know that.

Silence walks where none have tread before. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Phantompaw simply blinked in surprise at Dewkit's words and he shook his head. "Are you mousebrained?! Our mentors will rip off our pelts if we took you out!" he hissed, fur bristling at such an idea. But his emerald eyes softened when he remembered how much he wanted to go explore in the forest. "Look, what I mean is that you should just wait. You'll have plenty of time once you're an apprentice." Phantompaw glanced back at Walnutpaw, nudging him to support his words.

Dewkit pouted and a small growl came from deep within her throat. "But I don't want to wait!" She meowed in a small voice. Bowing her head she looked down at her feet and waited for the apprentices to leave her behind and go on their amazing adventures in the forest. She knew she would never get the chance to leave for the forest on her own in a long time.
(sorry its so short but Dewkit is now barely part of the story. lol)

"Um..."Walnutpaw shifted his paws in front of him in an uncomfortable position. He knew Phantompaw was right, that their mentors would kill them if they let Dewkit out. But he couldn't stand the little she-cat's disappointed expression. But fear of what his mentor would say won over his doubt. "Yea, maybe next time. Um..tell you what. We'll go hunt for a nice big mouse for you and give it to you when we come back,"the light brown tom reasoned, hoping it'll make Dewkit feel a bit better.
((Dewkit is going to sneak out right?))

Dewkit frowned. She had already wanted to leave the camp since the day she could walk. "Fine..." She sighed anxiously trying to fain her feelings. Luckily her stomach rumbled and she looked down at the fresh-kill. "I guess I will just wait. I'm hungry anyways." Dewkit said, plopping down on her back legs and started munching on a small fish.
She smiled as the meat slid down her throat and she purred as her belly slowly got fuller. Her smile was more over the fact that she was going to sneak after them when they left then of her eating. Well as least I wont be hungry when I go. Dewkit thought excitedly.
