Another day within camp, warriors and Apprentices moving about the camping grounds with little chance of stopping. Meows and growls filled the air, sharing tongues about other clans or bragging about how their hunting skills were. Trees slowly changing colors, losing their glow of green and now replaced with the colors Red, Brown and orange. Some have even started to fall, landing on the ground with a gentle touch of its ever fragile shape.
But this season of Leaf-fall, rumors begin to seep out and a curtain rumor caught a slight interest in a small tom's ears.
Jaykit, a tom with a sightless gaze but held a even more strong heart. He was only taken into camp just three moons ago, when green-leaf was at it's peak and the sun was glowing hot. He was just one moon old then, bearly able to believe anything but truest fear: The fear of being blind. But as time slowly went by and as the season slowly changed, Jaykit grew to learn his weakness and began to find his streaghs. His hearing grew quite abit and slowly was able to hear more things then normal cats could hear. Even his sense of smell, he could tell cats apart just by scent.
Jaykit however, still needed to find out everyone's names and as the day slowly began to fade to night, the same little rumor appeared. A small group of cats, at least at his hearing, were talking next to the Nursery in a low tone. By the way they were talking, it seemed that these cats didn't want others to hear or had all assumed that everyone was asleep. Jaykit was not however and soon tuned his hearing on the talking voices.
What are they talking about? The light gray tom wondered, barely moving his tail from his nose when he was pretending to be asleep. His glazed blue eyes were clearly wide open, looking as two glinting lights in a dark den. But yet, the group didn't notice and continued talking. Jaykit flicked his ears forward and listened closely.
"Have you heard?" One cat spoke, alittle excitement in his voice but manged to keep a low tone.
"Heard what?' Other cat spoke, which Jaykit could Tell that it was tom's voice.
"About what the twolegs left? They left a big medal thing next to the tree at our border."
Jaykit seemed to perk up alittle, his gray-striped head rose until it was above the tail and smiled abit. Before he could catch anymore of it, the group started padding away from the den and slowly faded into silence. Blinking his glazed light blue eyes, Jaykit uncurled himself and quickly made his way to the den's opening. Though, he almost tripped a few times getting to it and mumbled as he did so. Reaching it, he sniffed the air for abit and listened for any sounds that could be paw steps or his name.
But everything was silent and with it, Jaykit let out a huff.
They went back...at least to sleep. Hmm...I wonder.
Jaykit's thoughts made his head tilt abit and with a shake, padded forward. He knew he was going to get it later, but what was he to do? Lay there until he became an Elder? Jaykit was not in the mood of waiting and wanted to find out what they meant. But once again, the same feeling took over him and almost made him lose his footing. Fear. An unknown fear that kept clawing at him and threatened to push him back.
No...I can't. I'll keep going and find out if this rumor is indeed true. He thought, forcing himself to keep going and soon padded out of camp.
Only Jaykit was unware...that someone else was listening and watching him leave.
