A GUIDE TO THE TRIBE:
x they use both 'moon' and 'month'
x they use the terms 'spring, summer, fall, winter'
x they use the term 'caught-prey' as well as 'fresh-kill'
Setting-- about a two day journey from where the clan cats live. the tribe of endless ocean reside on a large stretch of beach. to the west is the ocean, the beach runs north to south. to the east are sand dunes and vegetation. most of the beach is lined with rocks, perfect for finding prey and hiding. two-legs rarely come to this beach because of poor surf waves and the rocks that lie on the sand. however, sometimes two-legs and other animals do venture out to the tribe's territory.
Camp-- long ago the water's tide used to reach right up to the dunes. now over the years the it lessened and revealed the beach. it also left something else-- a cave. marbled black and gray the cave is very well hidden. it is surrounded by other rocks and sand and is hidden from view from the beach grass. inside the cave is breath-taking, smooth walls line the interior as well as little shells and shiny rocks. as you walk in there is one main cavern. the cave then splits off into five other smaller rooms. one for to-bes, kit-mothers, cave-guards and prey-hunters, and one for elders. the last and largest cave is where the leader/healer sleeps and heals cats. there is also where he/she talks to their ancestors; the tribe of endless hunting.
Diet-- mice, seagulls, sandpipers, crabs, occasional baby sea turtle. all tribe cats are trained to swim in the ocean. only the most skilled prey-hunters hunt there, it is a talent that many are jealous of. swimming is dangerous, with the waves, rocks, and aquatic animals.
Ranks-- leader/healer, reffered as the healer. leads the tribe as well as being a type of 'medicine cat.' as a cat becomes healer they take the title as 'stoneteller'. to the tribe they are still called by their name. one life, does not fight to prevent being killed.
Cave-guards, picked from birth for their physical appearance. are big, strong, and guard and proctect the tribe. they are the main fighting force and sometimes accompany the prey-hunters for protection.
IMPORANT: cave-guards are known to have a unique fighting style, they keep their head high and are light on their paws. their claws are quick. due to enemies like large crabs, hawks, dogs, and foxes they dart back and forth in confusing patterns. the most skilled cave-guards master the skill of having small, sharp weapons such as crab claws and fish spines dipped in jellyfish poison. they carry these in their mouths during times of war or dangerous battles.
Prey-hunters, picked from birth for their physical appearance. they are lean, quick, agile and light. often coat themselves with wet sand to aid in hunting. only the most skilled prey-hunters hunt in the ocean, it is a talent that many are jealous of. swimming is dangerous, with the waves, rocks, and aquatic animals.
To-bes, young cats that are like a clans' apprentice. they are chosen to be a cave-guard or prey-hunter by the healer. IMPORTANT: when it is time for the healer to take on an apprentice he chooses a to-be regardless of he or she's position.
Kit-mothers, like the clans' queen. takes care of kits until they are six moons old. the healer chooses what position the kits will be, either a prey-hunter or cave-guard.
Elders, like the clans, cats who are old and retired.
Customs-- x the healer eats first, along with elders, kits, and kit-mothers. to-bes, cave-guards, prey-hunters eat last. prey is eaten by taking a bite then by passing it to another cat.
x kits are named by their mothers of the first thing they see as the kits is being born. (ex, flight of distant hawk)
x names are shortened (ex, flight)
IMPORTANT: like medicine cats, healers are not allowed to have kits. however, toms may have kits with his mate, but she-cats are NOT allowed. of course if one was to break the rule they would be looked down upon by the tribe.
if a she-cat ends up having kits, the newborns are put outside of the camp for one full night. if they survive they grow up as honored cats of the healer by another kit-mother. they know the healer is their mother but she is not allowed to raise them.
if they do not survive then it is as given: they were not mean to survive. tribe cats follow out this rule and it is not thought of as cruel.
