The cool breeze drifted through the forest. Many breaths billowed in the air as the cold season began to settle in. All the leaves on the trees had already fallen to the ground, brown and crunched up into pieces by many paws. Even frost was starting to build upon the bare tree branches. Yet the cold air did not seem to hinder the spirits or movement of the cats down below in the earth. If anything, there seemed to be more activity than ever. Leaf-bare was already here, and cats needed to prepare for the long, cold season and make sure every cat, from kit to elder, were warm in their dens. Food had to be stored so that none would go hungry. Medicine cats were already stalk piling their herbs, worried that the cold season would be sickness and death. It seems only one cat wasn't doing anything amongst the busy camp. He lay at the edge of camp, snoring softly. His breath clouded the air with each breath. The tom flipped over onto his back but he remained asleep. Padpaw was snoozing on the job.

Dewpaw walked quickly through the trees, trying in vain to warm up. The cold air was making the prey disappear, and that meant she would be hungrier than ever, especially with her apprentices' duties. The single vole she had caught would no doubt get her reprimanded by her mentor, but as long as she was allowed back to her nest before long, she didn't mind. as she trotted into camp, she was taken by surprise by the amount of bustling cats weaving twigs into the walls, patching dens, and doing whatever they could to prepare for the harshnesss of leaf-bare. Except one. Padpaw was, as usual, slacking. Hissing in frustration, she lay her vole down, avoiding her mentor and then racing over to him. "Padpaw, get up!" She wished that for once, he wouldn't be such a pain in the tail. Jabbing him with her paw, she tried to wake the young tom.

It was so great! Him! Outnumbered one to a thousand, battling one evil cat after another. His claws sliced through pelt and fur as if they were made of brittle leaves. His teeth flashed and took down one enemy after another. He felt invincible! He was the greatest warrior in the forest. This battle seemed effortless to him as his enemies fell with each strike of his claws. All the others cowered before him, fearing his awsomeness! Suddenly, something sharp poked his sides and Padpaw's amber eyes flew open. "Wha?" Padpaw groggily began to pull himself out of his slumber into the real world, blinking a few times against the sunlight. Dewpaw appeared before him, her face holding a frown and her eyes alighted with irritation. "Aww, why'd you wake me up?"Padpaw asked indignantly, getting up into a sitting position.

Dewpaw let out a gasp of astonishment. "Why did I bother to get you up, eh?" She puffed out her chest, appalled by his nonchalant behavior. She replied in an icy tone "Because, if you hadn't noticed, there is a clan that needs feeding, a den full of elders who need fresh moss before its all dead, and a certain apprentice who might just find a thorn or two in their moss tonight!" She glared at him Why did Padpaw always have to be so... lazy? Sure, he might be fun and jumpy sometimes, but at times like now, he just felt like a fly in her ears.

Padpaw remained unconcerned, even as Dewpaw chastised his behavior. He just shrugged and busied himself by licking his chest fur down, which was sticking up in clumps from his nap. "Well, I'll make sure my moss will be free of thorn,"he assured, misinterpreting Dewpaw's threat. "Geez, the Clan will feed itself sooner or later,"Padpaw meowed with another lazy yawn settling down again in a comfortable lying position. "What's one absent, handsome apprentice going to do? Destroy the Clan?"he asked, letting out a bark-like laugh full of amusement.

Dewpaw sighed, mumbling under her breath, "That's what you're capable of as far as I can see." she flicked her tail, looking away to calm herself down. "Anyway." she said, mumbling to keep her voice from shaking, knowing she would only make herself look stupid by doing that. "We need to hunt." She figured Padpaw wouldn't listen, but it was worth a try.

"Awsome,"Padpaw mewed, raising his head up a little to look up at Dewpaw. "Bring me back a mouse would ya?"he asked, tail thumping the ground in a wagging motion. "I haven't had anything to eat since this morning." With a mew of thanks, assuming Dewpaw listened to his request, he laid his head back donw and closed his eyes.
