A pile of black fur was curled up beside her; it was her brother Darkpaw. Even though they argued a lot, they always made up the same day. Solacepaw worried that him being with Hopepaw would be the breaking point of their friendship. She shook her heading, getting the thoughts out of her mind. Nothing could distract her today while she was training.
She stood up and stretched, careful not to awaken Darkpaw. She padded out of the apprentice's den and into the clearing. Yawning, she sat down and waited for her mentor, Whirlpool, to appear. Solacepaw couldn't wait to do more training!

"Good morning,"meowed a gentle voice. A beautiful silvery gray she-cat padded up to the apprentice with a friendly smile on her face and her blue eyes twinkling. Beside her, a cat that looked like an exact copy of her except with stark yellow eyes nodded towards Solacepaw in greeting.
"I guess I'll leave you to it. Don't do anything rash,"Whirlwind mewed to his sister, giving her a tender lick around the ear. He glanced at Whirlpool with concern in his gaze, flicking his tail in a worried fashion, as he always does whenever they seperate.
"I'll be fine. I have Solacepaw to protect me,"Whirlpool replied, giving her apprentice a wink.
A small smile crossed the brother's lip. He gave both she-cats a mewl of farewell before padding away.
"Now then. Are you ready to go?"Whirlpool meowed to Solacepaw, turning her attention back to her apprentice.

She was so excited to train today! "Morning, Whirlpool and Whirlwind." She called as the twin cats came towards her. After Whirlpool winked about Solacepaw protecting her, she added, "That's right!" and stood proudly with her tail straight up in the air. As Whirlwind left, she mewed back in farewell. "Yup, I'm ready to go......what are we going to do today, Whirlpool?" She said to her mentor, just dying to know what kind of training she had planned for the day. Solacepaw was relieved that it looked as if they would be training alone since that would mean no distractions, and for once she wouldn't be training with Darkpaw.

Whirlpool's blue eyes sparkled with amusement to see her apprentice so eager to train. It reminded her of her own apprentice days. Her training was always with her brother Whirlwind and they did everything together. The gray-furred she-cat didn't understand why Solacepaw didn't get along too well with her brother Darkpaw. To see to siblings fight was just strange to her since she and Whirlwind never fought. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, the she-cat replied, "Why don't we practice your tree climbing?"

[atrb=width,300,true][atrb=border,0,true] | [atrb=bgcolor,000000,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true]Solacepaw leaped up in excitement when her mentor spoke. She was a bit perplexed though about having to learn how to climb a tree. She supposed it would be an interesting skill to learn, but didn't here about apprentices training in it too often. She decided to take it as an honor, "That sounds like fun! I'd love to!" Solacepaw declared. It was also excited that she was getting training right now in something her brother hadn't done yet. She couldn't wait to come back later and brag about it to him. Well, she would talk to him if he wasn't around that terrible Hopepaw.

Whirlpool smiled, glad her apprentice was so enthusiastic. "Let's go then,"she prompted, beckoning her tail for Solacepaw to follow. She trotted out of camp, glancing back quickly to make sure her apprentice was right behind her before quickening her pace. The silver tabby knew just which tree to let her apprentice practice climbing skills. "We'll practice on this tree,"Whirlpool explained, stopping before a medium height maple tree with its trunk all uneven with chipped off bark. Those ledges were perfect for a beginner climber to get a grip on it.

[atrb=width,300,true][atrb=border,0,true] | [atrb=bgcolor,000000,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true]Solacepaw nodded, and followed behind her mentor after a few moments of hesitation. It had finally hit her what a frightening task she was about to embark on. She heard of many foolish cats falling out of trees and getting seriously injured. She assured herself that she was smarter than that, and bounded after Whirlpool when she looked back at her. "Sorry!" Solacepaw muttered quickly. The two cats padded only a short way before they stopped underneath a tree. It was a very odd and worn-in maple tree. Solacepaw's nerves were eased when she saw all the ledges she could use. The young apprentice sat and awaited instructions from her mentor, now a bit anxious to begin working on and perfecting her skills.

"Don't be nervous,"the silver she-cat assured, tapping her tail against her apprentice's shoulder reassuringly. "The key is just to keep your claws into the bark to stop from sliding. And if you do happen to fall, remember to use your tail to balance yourself before you land. It's all instincts so don't think about it too much,"Whirlpool explained. "Here, I'll show you."
The Fireclan she-cat padded up to the tree and bunched up her muscles, leaping up onto the tree. Her claws unsheathed and dug into the bark. "Make sure you have a firm grip before moving up,"she instructed. Then, using her back legs, she began to haul herself up. Her front claws served like a hook while her backlegs as leverage to push herself up. Inch by inch, the silver cat managed to get up to the first branch. Leaping lightly onto it, she sat there and looked down on her apprentice, giving Solacepaw a beckoning motion with her tail. "Your turn,"she called.

[atrb=width,300,true][atrb=border,0,true] | [atrb=bgcolor,000000,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true]Solacepaw watched very closely and silently as he mentor demonstrated how to climb. It was amazing how gracefully Whirlpool was as she leaped up onto the tree and climbed up onto a branch. Solacepaw knew her first try wouldn't be anywhere near that impressive looking, but kept telling herself repeatedly that it was okay. She padded up to the tree, muscles quivering with nervousness. She took a few deep breaths to relax them, then crouched down, ready to pounce.
Solacepaw sprang up and tried to latch onto the bark. Most of her front claws went in easily, but her back claws were another story. She hung there for a few moments and tried her best to keep calm as she gathered her footing. After many agonizing moments, her claws finally sunk in. "Yes!" She mewed in excitement, then began slowly climbing up the bark towards her mentor.
