wandering through a forgotten territory seemed pointless to the lithe black she-cat. but alas, here she was walking through the territory that she had once called her home. home she thought with a curl of the lip. the last time she was here, she had been attacked by her own damn clan! they had left deep gashes down her haunches and scarring her for a long time. the fur had grown back, but in horrible wisps and in the right light, you could see the ugly gray scars that scored her narrow back.
flitting through the willow trees that littered the territory, hinder came up onto the old bridge and she cringed at the thought of two-legs walking over it, and then the thought of kittypets hit her mind and she shuddered. the spoiled rotten, disgusting escuses for cats! they were worse than the bloody clan cats! which, in her opinion, were absolutely wretched creatures. not to mention that they had destroyed her father ... ripped him apart and left him for dead ... completely forgetting about her existance in the world and the clan. hinder unsheathed her claws and felt them sink into the rotting wood with a satisfied scowl on her face, her eyes dark with memory and agony.

"Hm, you're pretty brave to wander into Clan territory,"commented a voice. A orange tail with a white tip flicked back and forth, hanging over the side of the bridge. A somewhat large orange tabby tom was crouched atop the hands of the bridge, nestled there with his paws tucked under him. The rotting wood of the abandoned bridge seemed as if it was going to fall under the weight of the well-fed tom, yet it managed to hold. His green eyes were bright with mild interest as he looked over at Hinder, giving her a friendly smile.

at the sound of a toms voice, every bone, and nerve in the she-cats lithe black body tingled and tensed. the disgusting excuse for a cat was actually talk to her. ever so slowly she looked up at him, her cold, dead yellow eyes locking on his green ones, swimming with hatred and loathing. hinder had no idea who this tom cat was, but that was irrelevant to the fact that she hated him. any tom that spoke to her, hell, any tom breathed, disgusted her and she loathed. they were all useless and disposable and any she-cat that loved them were no better. a few seconds after she trapped her gaze upon him, she opened her mouth and with a sneer that was dripping with sarcasm, she spoke.
“kits call it brave, elders call it stupid.” if the amount of anger in her words wasn’t clear, the look on her face was enough to get it across to even the densest cat around. sheathing her claws and feeling them pull out of the old wood, hinder looked away from the tom and not trusting the domination position he was placed in over her, she focused on the railing across from the tom and jumped up their gracefully, but swaying slightly as she caught her balance and twisted so that she could see him fully. she knew better than to trust a tom cat, let alone a clan cat. “what are you gonna do about this brave little she-cat wandering on your precious territory cat?” hinder spat, mockery upon her dialogue.

The orange tabby tom chuckled, not at all fazed by the she-cat's irritable reply. "Well, I guess I'm half amazed you'd come here. Yet then again, I'm here trespassing too aren't I?"he purred, swishing his tail back and forth. He felt the bar rock as the she-cat suddenly lept onto it too, though, amazingly, the weak wood held. Quite a relief since he wasn't inclined to go for a swim if it broke away. The tom loud out a loud laugh, throwing back his head as Hinder uttered the next words. "Hah! You actually think I'm a Clan cat? Should I be flattered?"he meowed, cocking his head to the side with eyes full of amusement. "Well, I guess I should let you know I'm a loner like you,"the tom purred.

hearing the tom cat make fun of what she said in that insufferable tone all males carried made her want to rip out his throat and watch him slowly bleed to death.
however, his cockiness was slightly attractive, and she was one for that undeniable confidence. yet at the same time it scared her. and hinder wasn’t one for getting scared very easily, but alas, here she was, doubting her arrogance and anger towards him. no matter how hard she tried to steer clear of all of toms, and to keep her heart away from them, there was always that one stupid freaking tom that got under her skin.
at this thought, hinder decided with authority that she would not let this tom get to her. she was way too strong now to let it be destroyed by the like of the orange tom. furrowing her brow when he threw his head back and laughed, she cocked her own head to the side and curled her lip and let out a small hiss. he was mocking her again. she should’ve known though that he was not a clan cat, he didn’t hold the scent of a mistclan cat and she of all rogues should know that smell. her confidence swayed as she replied.
“I was mistaken. you don’t carry the retched stench of those starclan worshipping scumbags, now that I get a good smell of you. but either way, you still smell disgusting tom.” hinder growled her eyes looking upon him, unease written in them instead of loathing. flicking her tail up onto the railing protectively, she swiveled her ears at a late bird call, but didn’t turn them back.
the expression on her face had softened ever so slightly, but it was still one that was twisted by her malicious past, the demons raging against her features were not giving up and that was a price she was willing to paw.“and I must correct you. I am no loner, I am a rogue. and yes, there is a difference.” grumbling the last sentence slowly as to insinuate that he was a few lights short of a watt, she cocked her eyebrow and smirked.

"Really do I smell?"the tom asked, tilting his head and giving himself a quick whiff, though nothing putrid hit his nose. "But I thought I gave myself a good wash earlier,"he pointed out, soudning genuinely concerned. He just merely shrugged, reminding himself to clean his fur again later one. "Oh a rogue? Well, I don't see the difference really. We're all cats right?"the orange tabby meowed, grinning. "Oh, where are my manners?"he suddenly meowed, ears flicking up as he remembered something important. The tom hefted himself to his paws and padded over, tail raised as he balanced along the bar. The sitting closer and facing Hinder, he extended one paw like Twolegs do when they meet other Twolegs, something that he had learned and made a habit of. "I'm Rook the loner, at your service,"the tom meowed politely, also dipping his head to add to a cat's courtesy though he kept his paws extended.

hinder merely cocked her eyebrow in disgust as he spoke. toms could be really thick sometimes she decided and turned her attention away from him. this was turning out to be a very boring conversation, and usually toms tried by now to get on to her in some way. but that was what was happening right now. looking down at the white crest on her chest, she noticed a lone nettle protruding from it and swiftly licked it clear of her soft fur as she listened to the loner ramble.
"there is a clear difference you insufferable vermin." hinder grumbled under breath in a matter-of-fact yet monotone way. she, however, didn't elaborate on what she meant. she would let him ponder that for a while. watch him squirm at the idea of her being smart. the thought brought a twisted smile to her face that only grew more when he asked where his manners were. "all toms are manner less." in the same monotone voice she looked up to see him extending his paw and instinctively she leapt down from the railing and her hair stood on end. but when he introduced himself, she felt incredibly stupid and her ears grew hot with embarrassment. but there was no way in hell that she was going to touch his paw. she merely scowled with an uneasy gaze and answered him.
"i'd say it was a pleasure to meet you, rook, but that would be a lie." the lithe black she-cat paused to study his position on the rail and concluded that it was in no way hostile. she relaxed slightly. "i'm hinder, originally smallpaw of mistclan." tilting her head to the side a malicious twinkle touched her eyes and she couldn't help but grin ever so slightly. time for the mind games she thought happily.

The good-natured tom just chuckled as Hinder made snide comments towards him, not at all offended or bothered. Rook's ear flicked, maybe from amusement at the she-cat's aggressive reaction to his motion. Most cats would stare at his paws curiously while others gave him wierd looks, but this was the first time one actually interpreted it as something hostile.
"Hm, so you were a Clan cat,"Rook meowed, a slight, knowing grin crossing his face. "So like I said, there is no difference between all of us, we're all just cats, Clan, rogue, loner, or kittypet,"the orange tabby tom meowed simply, giving his paw a delicate lick and drawing it over his ears. It was normal to see a cat to refuse his pawshake, seeing that not many of them even knew what to do in that situation. So he merely set his paw back down, a bit disappointed that she had not responded to it yet not surprised at all.

the fact that the tom was staying so calm with everything that the she-cat was saying was starying to piss her off. how could a cat stay so calm in the face of death? and trust me friends, this was as close to death that you would get. hinder sighed heavily as he spoke again trying to show her that they were all the same. silly tom, she thought to herself as she flicked her tail so it rested over her small black paws. as he finished talking, she started to shake her head and laughed dryly.
"you have it soo backwards rook." she started with a glance down at the slow moving river beneath the bridge. "kittypets live under the feet of two-legs, eating out of their hands and sleeping in thier nests. they get everything handed to them. clan cats worship the fictional clan in the sky. they fight for borders and for food. it's tedious and pointless. loners have no problems with anyone and go where they please without conflict. rogues, well, from me personally, i pick fights, tresspass ignore all rules laid down and do what i want, whether it causes problems or not." shrugging her shoulders she looked at him. "do you understand, loner?"

Rook looked at Hinder with cocked eyebrows, yet still having the same, amused gleam and grin on his face. "Yet we all have ears, tails, and claws. We all have to survive, the only difference is how we choose to survive,"he countered gently, giving his chest fur a quick lick to smooth down tufts. "Don't you ever get lonely living by yourself as a rogue?"Rook asked, twitching his ears as he asked this innocent question. "I know I do. After my Twoleg died, I was heartbroken. Sure I now live the life of a loner and I'm pretty content, but I still have an ache for my home,"the orange tabby tom meowed, his gaze going far away to something Hinder can't see. "

hinder shrugged off his offhand comment about the way they all lived for the same thing. obviously this argument was going nowhere and for once, hinder had no urge to argue her point any further. she could much rather let this tom think that he was superior to her, that’s generally what they all thought anyways. she choose to live on her own because the presence of other cats nauseated her that was all.
there was no painting it with pretty colors, that was the morbid truth oh and there was the fact that she scared a good number of felines, despite how small she was. no she did not get lonely, and nor did she care about how he was heartbroken from being exiled and forced to live the harsh life of a wild cat. her respect for him even more when she put two and two together. he was an ex-kitty pet. her stomach turned in disgust.
“ I do not get lonely, and I most certainly don’t miss anyone or anything. you probably never thought of this before, but some cats like living by themselves. gives us time to our thoughts and we only have to worry about ourselves. other cats just carry extra baggage that is unnecessary for living a good happy life.” hinder furrowed her brow slightly at this thought. she had never actually thought about it before it was interesting.
“why didn’t you just go and whine at some other two-legs nest and become their kitty pet rook? or did the thrill of living in the forest awaken the predator within?” hinder was teasing him, good naturedly. there was no harshness in her words, it was simply, fun.

"Oh I don't know Hinder,"Rook chuckled, twitching his tail and his eyes glittered in amusement as she responded by saying that cats liked to live alone. "I know we're pretty social animals. Being in the company of others is treat, especially for us "exiles","he purred. The oragne head tilted to the side and he gazed thoughtfully up in the sky, pondering the question Hinder asked. "Haha, maybe it did,"he laughed. "But I don't know. I've been really loyal to my Twoleg and the thought of being with other twolegs is just wierd."

hinder decided she didn't like this cat. didn't like him one bit. he was a jerk and he was mocking her and it was hurting her feelings and ticking her off. she wanted to cuff him over the ears and make him yowl like a kit!!
instead, hinder sat and listened patiently for him to finish yet another ramble about himself and put her and all other rogues, and cats under the same profile. not all cats were social, he should know that, he was talking to the least social cat in the forest. but she figured he wasn't the brightest star in the sky.
"i find it mildly amusing that you would feel loyalty to a two-leg." hinder paused and her brow furrowed, this was concept that she was not able to wrap her head around. "did you like being a pet? where they chose when you ate, and what? i would go insane if i was cooped up in a place like that that made me do all those things!" a shudder shook her small black body and she shook her head. "i dunno rook, i like the way i live."

"Well, my Twoleg was really nice to me. He let me go where I want, let me drink all the milk and eat all the salmon I want,"Rook replied dreamily, licking his maw at the thought of the creamy liquid and pink flesh of the fish. "I often go by the Twolegplace when I'm hungy, but most just give me those catfood that taste bland. But it's food. If I'm lucky, they give me a bit of milk,"he meowed shrugging. "So why did you leave the Clans Hinder?"he asked, quite curious.

hinder shook her head. he was insane to think that a two-leg actually cared about them. two-legs were mindless creatures that destroyed homes and stunk up the place with their monsters. she couldn't imagine having to live with one. a look of disgust touched upon her ragged black features as he licked his lips and had a dreamy look while he talked about eating kitty-pet food. the disgust was only hightened when he informed her that he went back there a lot to get fed. hinder pulled her ears back and pursed her lips.
"you sicken me rook." she said simply, coolly, her eyes unwavering on him. after hearing about his association with two-legs she debated about whether or not she should answer his question about her leaving the clans. either way, she wasn't going to answer truthfully. the truth never got her anywhere in the ast so no point telling it now. "a couple of reasons loner." she shrugged and looked away, raising her eyebrows for emphasis. "the clans are foul. they destroy the innocent ..." pain at the thought of her father being torn apart by the her past clanmates choked her words, and she instantly regretted saying anything.

Rook's ear flicked as he listened to Hinder, noting the bitterness in her tone. Concern sparked in his forest green eyes. "Well, I thought the Clans live by a code. I know for sure that Clan cats know when to stop fighting. I've heard they avoid killing others if they had to,"the orange tabby tom pointed out, though he assumed Hinder knew more than him as he had no experience of being a Clan cat. "What I don't understand is why leave when I feel rogues are no different. I have to say rogues are more violent than Clan cats,"the tom asked bluntly.

The black she-cat's eyes flashed as the tom spoke of the Clan's precious code. Some good that code did! She had to stop herself from lashing out at him, with more than just her tongue.
"The Clan's are nothing more than organized rogues. They do not have mercy on those weaker than them ..." Hinder's tone and expression changed. Hurt flickered across her eyes and at that point she was completely vulnerable. Her lithe shoulders sagged and her eye grew wide and she focused them on the ground.
"MistClan cats murdered my father, no, they destroyed him, all because he was looking for me and my siblings... They have no value for life, at least none that I have seen." Voice falling to a whisper, she drew in a deep breath and tried to compose herself but to no avail."
"That's why I left the Clan's." She said flatly with a shrug of her shoulders. "We rogues may appear more violent, but our violence is justified by the wrong doings of our past encounters."

[atrb=width,300,true][atrb=border,0,true] | [atrb=bgcolor,ec8b00,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true] Rook's eyes darkened into somberness as he heard Hinder's story, her true hatred for the Clans. "I'm sorry,"he mewed, looking at her with sympathetic green eyes. "However, that is one bad deed that Clans have done that I've known of. Sure, they're not noble and holy as they say. But I have seen rogues who kill for pleasure. It seems no group is noble,"the orange tom meowed grimly, though he managed a smile. "But that doesn't stop us right? As long as we keep smiling, we can live any way we want!"
