I'm but a shadow in the fog of life... Shadow padded around. "Mist!" he called. He couldn't find his daughter. She had dissapeared moons ago, but he continued to look for her. It's all my fault! He thought with anguish. I turned my back for one moment and she was...gone.... He heard a rustle in the bushes, he whipped around. "Who's there?" he called. Once you see me it's too late...cuz i'm already gone...

"Is that any of your concern?"a sneering hiss replied. Dark, cold blue eyes flashed maliciously and a tabby tom padded out. His metallic gray fur was ragged and marred with ugly scars. His mouth was spread wide in a cold sneer, showing sharp, yellow teeth. His left ear hung like a loose flap, flopping uselessly with every step he took. Overall, his appearance was frightening. "You ought to expect to see cats around loner. You're not the only cat wandering about,"the tom growled coldly, flicking his tail contemptuously.

I'm but a shadow in the fog of life...
Shadow found his claws retracting. He faced the loner. "Maybe it is maybe it isn't." he meowed when the loner questioned if it was his concern. He gazed at the tom with his venomous green eyes. His black pelt that harbored many scars bristled. He felt his large muscles tighten. He couldn't tell if this tom was looking for a fight. He wasn't, but if this tom tried something he'd fight back. "What's your name?" he asked nonchalantly.

"Rovek,"the dark gray tabby meowed, his good ear flicking. His tone sounded bored, almost as if Shadow wasn't a good enough company. His cold eyes lazily scanned over Shadow, noticing the tom's bristling fur and unsheathing claws and a light of cold amusement glinted in his dark blue eyes. "No need to get so worked up. I have no quarrel with you,"Rovek growled, sitting down and wrapping his tail around her paws.

I'm but a shadow in the fog of life...
Shadow nodded and forced himself to relax. "I'm sorry...I've ran into many loners and rogues that wanted to fight. I'm a little edgy." he admitted. "My name's Shadow." he meowed. He studied the loner carefully. He seemed ok. "Have you seen a she-cat with blue/gray fur and silvery blue eyes around here? Her name is MIst." he meowed trying not to sound too worried.

"Normally cats have that reaction with me,"Rovek meowed, his eyes glittering darkly, as if hinting something. Yet it passed off quickly, replaced by the same, bored expression as the tom slowly licked a paw casually. When Shadow asked the question, Rovek peered up with one eye, cocking an eyebrow. "Hm...don't think so. Why? Was she your girlfriend or something?"the dark gray tom meowed, his mouth grinning in a sardonic smile that seemed creepy on his face.

Shadow nodded at his statement. "Many look at me that way aswell...but i don't know why..." he trailed off and thought 'i left that path long ago....' but he didn't speak it aloud. He looked up at Rovek's question and shook his head. "No...she's my daughter." he meowed

Rovek cackled in reply, the same sardonic smirk on his face, showing his sharp white teeth. "Oh, so your kit ran away from you huh? What did you do?"the gray tom asked, laughing cruelly. He wasn't the nosy type, yet the conversation was growing quite interesting.

Shadow cocked his head the Rovek. Appearently this tom wanted to hear his tale of anguish. "She was six moons old when i lost her. I told her to wait by the tree..." he trailed off. "That tree infact." he gestured with his tail to a large oak tree. "I killed a rabbit and came back to feed her,and she was...gone..." he meowed. "The only smell was her scent and rogue's scents all mixed together. My guess would be there were two or three rogues..." he meowed.

Rovek listened quietly, his face holding no expression at all. His cold dark blue eyes stared at Shadow, his good ear twitching as the last of the story was given by the loner. Then, Rovek's ugly smirk returned to his face and he let out a mirthless laugh. "Well, the only explanation is either those rogues wanted a new kit to take of for themselves or....,"he cackled, trailing off as he lifted a paw and slid silver claws out, an unnatural light glinting off the sharp claws. His dark blue eyes flashed with the idea of what might have happened to the kit. "...hm, so you might find her dead body somewhere,"the dark gray tom growled unsympathetically.

Shadow stared at him his venomous green eyes froze over. "Can i ask you a question?" he asked. Before Rovek had the chance to give him permission he began. "Do you have any family? Because it seems to me that there's no way i hel* that you could." he meowed, no traces of anger in his voice he was...emotionless.

"Would siblings count?" Rovek answered mildly, chuckling darkly at Shadow's reaction. "They are nothing to me. Just burdensome cats who happen to share the same blood with me,"the metallic gray tom spat, claws digging into the earth at the thought of his siblings. To him, they were just weak fools.

Shadow gazed at him thoughtfully. "To tell the truth, I find myself agreeing with you." he meowed. "My family is nothing, but a waste of space...but my daughter shows promise to me." he meowed. "And if any rogue has harmed my child...i will not stop until they are all dead." he meowed darkly.

"Well, aren't you wasting your life looking for your daughter then?"the tabby tom pointed out, rolling his eyes. "If you think logically, a young kit like her would have been dead long ago. Either that, or those "evil" rogues raised her to be a killer like them,"Rovek surmised, chuckling darkly at the thought.

Shadow gazed at him thoughtfully. "Well, the killer trait does run through her genes." he meowed darkly thinking back to his past. "And she was quite large for her age and..." he meowed trailing off. 'She'd always asked me what it was like to kill a cat...' he thought.

Rovek lifted his head to the air and cackled darkly, something that never really suited this scarred tom. He shook his head slowly, as if in disapproval, his useless ear flopping with every shake of his head. "Well, let's hope when you meet her she won't kill you right away before you have a chance to introduce yourself. I see rogues tend to do that often when threatened. It seems you and I, however, are a different case,"the dark gray tom meowed, grinning slightly.
Then, as if he had a change of heart, Rovek meowed, "I'll help you look for her hm?" A sardonic smirk crossed his face as he made this offer, as if there was an ulterior motive behind this kind gesture.

Shadow nodded. "I don't think she will...Well i really don't think she can." he meowed. At the rogue's offer he was a little shocked. "Really?" he asked not even trying to hide his shock. This tom didn't seem like the type to bother with niceties.

"Why not? You seem desperate,"the tom meowed, shrugging with the same bored expression on his face. "I have nothing better to do, and you seem desperate to find Mist,"the metallic gray tom added, eying Shadow. "However, if you don't want my help, I won't insist,"Rovek growled, getting back onto his paws and lifting his tail.

Shadow hesitated, but just for a moment. "Wait..." he meowed. "I do want your help." he meowed calmly. "I would greatly appreciate that." he meowed.

"Very well,"Rovek meowed, smirking slightly. His dark eyes gazed the surroundings, taking in the endless meadow. "So you say it's a blue-gray she-cat? Hope she doesn't have scars like you, or she'll never get a tom to like her,"the dark gray tom growled, cackling. "So where have you searched so far?"Rovek asked, turning his piercing gaze at Shadow.

"Hmph!" Shadow meowed. "Just to let you know I happen to have a lot of she-cats that like me and want to be my mate!" he retorted with a grin. "I've searched this area, and by clan territory." he meowed. "I've yet to search rogue lands i had hoped i'd find her before it came down to that." he meowed

"Oh, really?"Rovek replied to Shadow's comment about him getting enough she-cats, though it sounded as if the metallic gray tom didn't really believe nor care about that issue. "You've searched quite a while then,"the tom mused, flicking his good ear as he began to think. "Though it's going to take you longer to search the rogue lands, for all we know she could be on another land far away from here. Have you ever checked around the twolegplace?"Rovek asked.

Shadow gazed at him calmly. "How about you? Do you have any she-cats on you're tail?" he asked with a smile. He nodded. "Yeah i've checked there five times." he meowed

Rovek snorted in response to Shadow's earlier tease, rolling his eyes in annoyance. It irked him that the loner asked him such a question. True, there were she-cats who had been smitten over him, but he didn't care at all what they thought. Just useless nonsense from moony she-cats. "Well, we'd better get started. Any clues you got? Or are you following your instincts?"the dark gray tom asked, a scathing tone in his voice, as if he'd be irritated if Shadow didn't have any leads.

Shadow noticed how touchy Rovek seemed to be about questions about mates and what not. "I was actually following her scent here but then it just stopped." he meowed.

"Hmph, maybe she suddenly learned to fly and stopped using the ground,"Rovek muttered sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "Show me where her scent is somewhere, and maybe I can try to pick up the trail,"the dark gray tom urged, flicking his tail impatiently.

Shadow nodded, and padded away hoping Rovek followed. He stopped where her scent was the strongest. It was a sweet smell, it was definitely his daughter's scent. He'd know it anywhere

Rovek followed after, watching Shadow's every movement with his dark metallic blue eyes. It seemed something was on the rogues mind, for he wasn't exactly paying attention for a while, his eyes darkening with his thoughts. It was only when the loner stopped did Rovek pull himself back into reality. "Is it here?"the rogue asked, roughly padding over and nudging Shadow away. The tom breathed in the scent near the ground, smelling a scent of a cat that seemed to be traced with something similar to the scent that clung to Shadow. "I assume this is Mist's scent?"Rovek meowed, turning to Shadow for confirmation.

Shadow nodded solemnly. It bothered him that laced in with that sweet scent was the stench of a rogue. "Do you smell the rogue in her scent too...or is my mind playing tricks on me?" he asked hopefully. He noticed that Rovek's eyes were darkening and that he seemed to be focused on something completely different, but it didn't bother him. He was just glad for the company and the help.
