the sky was an unbroken wall of stormclouds. the air was humid, and Iceheart couldn't help but walk slowly. it was dark outside, and the leisure of his solo hunt was somewhat stifled by the humidity of the pending storm.
"Damn clouds probably won't even burst," he muttered, his voice a harsh whisper to cut the thick air.
to make matters worse, Iceheart couldn't even find a prey-scent. it was the beginning of greenleaf, for StarClan's sake! usually, DawnClan's territory had an abundance of prey around this time.
"Just my rotten luck," he complained to himself. he shifted his flat green eyes to the sky, checking the meager branches of the trees for low-hanging birds.
Nothing... he sighed at his failure, wondering if there was prey everywhere, all just watching him with their dumb, beady eyes, scorning him, willing someone to see Iceheart not able to bring fresh-kill to the camp.
just at this moment, a vole decided to dart right before his paws, aiming for the other side of the clumpy grass.
flashing a grin of wicked teeth, Iceheart darted forward, but his paws fell on empty dirt. incredulous, his eyes darted to the grass and saw the little rat mocking him.
"Oh, no you don't..."
ignoring how foolish he must look, he stood, rage glinting in his eyes.
This isn't my day...

The camp was quiet, many of the cats taking refuge in the little shelter there was on DawnClan territory. There was one she-cat though who was relaxing out in the open. Feeling the most relaxed she had been in a long time.
Featherwhisker lifted her head to the sky and took a deep, relaxing breath. Ashflame, her sister, was off doing her own thing today and Featherwhisker had been given the day off due to the amount of prey she had brought back yesterday.
The day was dark, and there was obviously a storm on its way, but this did not dampen the pretty she-cats mood. Getting up, she stretched her legs to the point of pain, and released with a great sigh.
Featherwhisker made her way out of the camp. She hadn't gone for a run in a long time. Warrior duties had been piling up lately with tensions running high within the clans. Rain was a good sign. Maybe now there would be less fights between the clans. Hopefully the river would swell again and there would be peace.
Featherwhisker had yet to come across fighting clan mates but it was only a matter of time. The dry season was almost in peak and soon everyone, even those who constantly complained about the cold, would now be complaining about the constant heat and lack of water.
Shaking out her legs one last time, Featherwhisker prepared for her run. She took off at a slower speed, not wanting to tire too soon. She felt the breeze through her pelt as she ran over crevices in the hill. She was sure that she could do this all afternoon until she almost ran into another DawnClan warrior. It was Iceheart, a tom only a few moons older than herself.
"Sorry!" She groaned, realizing that he was probably hunting. It was a good thing she hadn't actually run into him. Pissing off a sometimes irritable warrior was the last thing she wanted.

Almost there...
Iceheart crept forward, his haunches still and packed with power, his forelegs whispery-soft against the plains. the vole sat there, quivering, its back to Iceheart -- a very foolish move, he thought, his own whiskers shaking softly with excitement.
Stay down, you little--
the sound of paw pads distracted him. the scent of one of his Clanmates washed over him, and just as he turned around to pinpoint exactly who it was, he came face to face with a young tabby she-cat.
"Whoa!" he grunted, but was relieved when she managed to catch herself before ramming into him. he turned back to the vole; it had vanished, of course.
"Thanks a lot," he muttered, but there was no real anger in his voice. after all, he had allowed himself to be distracted; if he had been just a bit quicker...
he sighed, sat up straight, and ran his tongue over his somewhat-ruffled fur. "Featherwhisker, what are you doing out so late? Going hunting, too? Or..." he thought a moment, smirking lightly. "Probably not. You'd scare all the prey away, you were going so fast."

Featherwhisker almost let out a sigh of relief when Iceheart showed no true anger in his mew. Slight frustration sure, but not anger. It was a good thing too, Featherwhisker wasn't sure if she could put up with anymore anger. Ashflame seemed to always be angry at Featherwhisker for some matter or another.
The she-cat felt her fur prickle at his words. There was a sudden hot embarrassment underneath her skin. Featherwhisker let her sharp blue gaze meet Iceheart's. "I would not scare all the prey away..." She mewed tartly.
"What are you doing out so late?" She asked, avoiding his own question. She wasn't quite ready to admit to the tom that she was going for a run. The true reason she had gone for a run tonight was that she wanted to clear her head, but she had an even deeper desire to go see Nettlepaw... but that would never happen. The tom was surely a warrior now... and wanted nothing more to do with her. So much for all those meetings as apprentices... Featherwhisker shook her head to clear the thought and felt even more embarrassed when she realized she had been staring into Iceheart's green eyes.

the relief in Featherwhisker's eyes amused Iceheart. hah, she should be scared of me, he boasted to himself, but suddenly she seemed annoyed with his 'prey' comment.
"I would not scare all the prey away..."
he rolled his eyes without meaning to. "Your paws were pounding like horse hooves," he pointed out mildly. his own question ended up ignored, though; Featherwhisker seemed somewhat hostile all of a sudden. sure, not enough to really get pissed, but enough to get dodgy and weird.
She-cats, he thought, exasperated. They're always pissy about something!
he raised a paw to groom it -- it was always good to look nonchalant, right? -- when her maw parted, issuing a question.
"What are you doing out so late?"
he snorted. "I was hunting, but you sorta ruined that." he glanced to where the vole had been without realizing he was doing it, a look of light regret in his eyes, before he turned back to Featherwhisker.
he was surprised to find her gazing into his eyes, but instead of getting hot under the fur, like he normally would, he grew curious. she wasn't looking at him -- no, Featherwhisker looked as though she were miles and miles away from where they were standing now.
curious, he interrupted her reverie. "Are, uh, you okay? You look really distracted."

Featherwhisker let out a breath of air, amused, at his first comment but tensed when he mentioned she was distracted. It was true, according to many cats in DawnClan she got a far away look in her eyes whenever she was thinking.
"Yeah..." She mewed, unsure of what to say. "Sorry, seems to happen to me a lot." She murmured quietly. She tried to lighten the mood. "I'm sure you would have missed that prey you were trying to catch anyway." She smirked, teasing him. Even though she was still embarrassed she looked back into his eyes. They were a very pretty green color. The color reminded Featherwhisker of her dad's eyes. If only she knew where he was now.
"My feet do not pound against the ground! I have quite the gracefull run" She almost laughed at this. It was true, she hadn't been trying her hardest to be quiet tonight. "Honestly, I think there are a lot of DawnClan warriors who need to practice running quietly. I bet the other clans can hear us half the time!" This time she really did laugh, and felt all the stress of her day lift off her shoulders.

Iceheart noticed that Featherwhisker stiffened slightly at his last comment. Oops. Maybe I went too far?
"Yeah... sorry, seems to happen to me a lot."
he inclined his head in a nod. "I get'cha. I mean, sometimes you gotta shut out the world to think right. You know?" he meant every word of this. Iceheart wasn't a big thinker -- hell, no! -- but when a thought or a mood crossed over him, it became entirely necessary to isolate himself from his Clanmates and ponder the dark thoughts.
it hadn't happened since his apprenticehood, but he certainly understood Featherwhisker's staring off.
"I'm sure you would have missed that prey you were trying to catch anyway."
he couldn't help but chuckle at her now-light, teasing tone. Good; I didn't make her mad. he meowed, "Tch, yeah right!" Yeah, you're right, but I'm not gonna admit it! "That little rat would be safely buried right now, right beside a big stack of fresh-kill. All caught by me!" he twitched the tip of his tail in a move of false bragging.
"My feet do not pound against the ground! I have quite the gracefull run."
Iceheart grinned. Now it was his turn to tease! "If you're graceful, then I'm a sparrow!" She hadn't been that heavy-footed; he'd heard worse. Sometimes from himself, actually.
"Honestly, I think there are a lot of DawnClan warriors who need to practice running quietly. I bet the other clans can hear us half the time!"
Iceheart couldn't help but smile. the blue-eyed she-cat was certainly less muddled than when they'd run into each other.
plus, what she was saying was true.
"You're probably right," he agreed, smiling ruefully. "But they probably wish they could run as fast as us, too! We may be loud, but we can run like lightning when we want to."

Featherwhisker felt oddly elated at his first comment. Not many people understood when she stopped paying attention in order to think. They just thought that she was ignoring them.
"Oh yes," She mewed, amused. "Your pile would just be gigantic. Too big to carry back by your self." She purred, she didn't have many friends within her own clan. Maybe this would be the start of one.
She sat up taller. "Maybe you are a sparrow." She narrowed her ice-blue eyes and looked more closely at him. "Maybe you have just fooled everyone into thinking you're a cat."
She knew, however, that what he was saying was both true and false at the same time. A lot of the cats in the other clans wished they could run as fast as DawnClan warriors but most of them disliked the open moors that the speed came with.
Featherwhisker licked her front right paw. Somehow, while running, she had stepped in dirt and now it was covered in a dusty residue. Featherwhisker quickly looked behind her and groaned. "I also need to improve on my technique apparently." She purred. "Look at how dirty I got my tail!"
"Do you ever... just run?" She asked suddenly. "Just because you've wanted to get out of camp?" She did it all the time, she was curious if any other cats did it too.

"I'm glad you recognize my hunting expertise," Iceheart purred. "Now if only everyone else would see the truth!"
he tilted his head as she coyly went on. "Well, if I am a sparrow, I'd say I'm doing an amazing job of hiding it." he flicked the tip of his tail, baring white teeth in a hint of a smile. "Another thing I'm good at." slyly said. not.
he glanced, then, at her tail. he laughed in a harsh burst. "Looks like it's a different color from the rest of your gray fur," he pointed out, shaking his head critically. Clumsy, isn't she? thought with little to no real conviction. he realized he'd never really gotten to know Featherwhisker, though they had been apprentices together for a brief time and were now young warriors of the Clan.
he was rueing it, honestly. Iceheart wasn't too social, but he didn't mind talking to cats and keeping up to date with everyone in the Clan. it was expected. yet, here was this pretty she-cat that he'd barely spoken too, and she was fairly nice and easy to speak to.
breaking him out of his thoughts -- like dragging a drowning child out of the water -- was Featherwhisker's random outburst. he turned to her with mild surprise.
"Do you ever... just run?"
his eyes flashed. did he? he left camp occasionally, wandering through his mind without a guide, sifting through things better left to decay... but did he run?
"I don't think I ever have," he confessed. "But... I can kinda see why you would. Sometimes I go for a walk." it was surprising for him to admit that -- it didn't go with the stereotype he'd created of himself, the image of a tough, hollow-headed tomcat that he'd always maintained.
Well... who's judging who, here?

The cool air settled over the camp like a fog. Cats relaxed at last in the little sun that would be left in the day. Auburnpaw remained by the exit, but far enough away not to look suspicious. This was not her first time sneaking out of camp, she had done it several times for a late night walk, but this time there were birds fluttering around in her stomach.
She couldn't believe she was doing this... he might not even be there. Cougarpaw had asked her to come visit, said he just wanted to hang out, and Auburnpaw had agreed readily. After the two apprentices first encounter she couldn't sleep for days because of the guilt of running off on him. After the second meeting though she was truly happy. They had become...friends of sorts.
Friends... I wonder if he considers us friends... Auburnpaw licked her chest self-consciously. She wasn't trying to impress the tom or anything... but this was her first close friend from another clan and she was excited. She had always been curious about the other clans and how they worked... maybe he would tell her a few things.
Auburnpaw snapped out of her thoughtful daze and glanced around camp. No one was watching, now was the perfect time. She slipped out of camp with ease. Careful to travel paths traveled on less often. There could be a few cats still who were just finishing hunting or a late patrol. She didn't want to run into anybody.
Once at FireClan's border with DawnClan, Auburnpaw became nervous again. What if she was caught by someone. There was the risk of DawnClan, MoonClan and FireClan tonight. Huge risk.
Holding her breath, Auburnpaw crossed into DawnClan territory. Hopefully all the clan cats were settling down to rest. Hopefully no one was on a late night walk or hunt.
The sky was looming with a storm and Auburnpaw was nervous that she and Cougarpaw would get caught in it... atleast they had that shelter to hide in if they really needed to.
DawnClan was rather windy tonight, without the shelter of the trees Auburnpaw's fur got easily ruffled. She had to remind herself to groom before she met up with Cougarpaw, no use visiting someone with fur flying in every which direction.
The farther into DawnClan she got, the more confident the yellow eyed cat became. There was a high chance of getting caught, but she knew that cats had to sleep eventually. Once she got to MoonClan territory and, hopefully, met up with Cougarpaw they would have little or no problems.

Iceheart's shame was still hot, and he parted his jaws to interrupt his own speech.
"I mean, don't think--"
but suddenly, a wind shifted the thin fur on his shoulders. wind -- what, with the lack of natural barriers on DawnClan territory -- was not an odd occurrence. but this wind carried more than the scent of moonlight, night air, and prey.
he narrowed his sharp green eyes, his body tensing involuntarily. "Featherwhisker," he hissed quietly, turning his body. "Taste the air."
something piqued inside of his chest -- a hot jolt of excitement that so resembled pain or surprise, he couldn't help but lash his tail. the scent that had invaded the night's breeze was, indeed, an enemy -- or at least a cat from an enemy Clan. Is that... FireClan?
he turned back to Featherwhisker anxiously, hoping to see a similar reaction in her body language and face. "FireClan," he muttered to her, his eyes straining for signs of fur or bright feline eyes among the tough plains grass and deep shadows.

Featherwhisker had just opened her mouth to respond, unsure of what to say, when he interrupted her. Then he stopped talking and looked tense. Curious, she followed his example and opened her mouth to see what was bothering him.
Through the air she could smell the ice cool wind and the everlasting scent of DawnClan. It was a calming smell, but Featherwhisker knew that this was not what Iceheart was so tense about. She took a deeper breath and knew what was wrong.
'FireClan' He muttered to her. She nodded, wondering how far off this cat was.
But it could just be their scent borders... Featherwhisker could tell that Iceheart had thought this too. Then again, the border was quite a far ways off. Maybe there was a cat wandering through right now... but why?
"What do we do?" She asked Iceheart. It was strange, but she hadn't had to face another clan cat in DawnClan territory yet. She'd never been in a true fight. It ashamed her to even admit it to herself... but she was slightly scared.
Suddenly she saw a shape move across her vision, pretty close to DawnClan's border. "I think I see whoever it is!" She mewed, trying to get a better look. She pointed with her tail so Iceheart would know what she was looking at.

Iceheart could see hesitation in Featherwhisker's posture, but she nodded, confirming his thoughts.
Well then... this night just got exciting, he thought, flashing fangs in a quick grin to break the dusky air's pall.
"What do we do?" his Clanmate asked, clearly unsure. he thought of immediately laughing and telling her that, of course, they'd go and rip the intruder's fur off, but he could tell she was nervous, and instead thought of saying something tactful.
thing is, he couldn't think of anything.
saving him from looking a fool, she broke the contemplative quiet. "I think I see whoever it is!"
at her mew, Iceheart turned, green gaze piercing the night. following Featherwhisker's silver tail, he stared into the shadows. sure enough, near the DawnClan border, a subtle shape was moving towards them.
"The wind's working against this FireClan cat," Iceheart murmured thoughtfully. "I don't think she's spotted us yet." he straightened up, peering into the dark.
a thought occurred to him. "You think there's more of them? A... midnight raid, or something?" he wasn't sure. it sounded stupid out loud, seeing as how this cat -- from a distance, albeit -- looked rather young and quite nervous. would she be so nervous if she weren't alone?
he let out a growl of frustration. "Let's grab her before she gets too close to camp!" in a bolt of energy, Iceheart burst forward, legs flailing at the ground. all of his early teasings about Featherwhisker's graceful run were forgotten; he was no longer trying to be silent.
he wanted the FireClan intruder to know that she should expect trouble from DawnClan!

Featherwhisker blinked her bright blue eyes in shock when Iceheart's green ones vanished into the night. The tom was hard enough to see at night with his dark gray pelt, now that his eyes were gone from her sight it became harder to know where he was. Featherwhisker watched with admiration as the tom ran with quick speed towards the intruder. It was a few moments before she realized that she should be following.
Featherwhisker took off in a flash and managed to quickly catch up to Iceheart. She felt a little more confident than she normally would have because of his presence. There was no other cat in the clan that she would rather be beside right now.
This realization surprised Featherwhisker. She usually wasn't so quick to trust cats. There was... something about this tom however that was very trustworthy.
Serious thoughts aside, she was quick to notice that Iceheart wasn't being a very quiet runner. She'd have to tease him about that later.
---
Auburnpaw felt her heart sink to her paws. There was a set of paws pounding towards her. Auburnpaw froze where she was and let out a soft cry. So much for a successful sneak through DawnClan territory. She was in deep, deep trouble now.
Auburnpaw was speechless, she was sure that there would be no warriors out tonight. She was obviously wrong. The dark she-cat slunk down into the grass in fear. She knew that there was no hope. They must have scented her, or already spotted her moving shape across the moor. All she could do was wait for them to get here. There was no way that she was running from a DawnClan warrior. They were much faster than she would ever be. They were not restricted like she was by trees. They had plenty of practice running with no obstructions.

Heh... I see her now. he was broken from his brief bloodthirst by another set of paws running alongside his. he wasn't sure why, but he was glad to have Featherwhisker in on this with him. Iceheart was pleasantly relieved that she now seemed as determined as he was.
as they closed in on the FireClan warrior, Iceheart realized a few things.
one, this was either a new warrior or an apprentice. the look of fear in her eyes was unmistakable, and there was little to no fighting spirit in her. he snorted as he slowed his pace, approaching the young cat.
two, the she-cat was crouching in fear, not even attempting to run or fight. not that either would have done her any good; what FireClan cat, apprentice or not, could outrun a DawnClan warrior, much less two? and if this cat was an apprentice, two warriors would be quite the challenge.
Iceheart snorted in disgust before he sheathed his claws. I didn't even realize I'd had them out, he thought, looking at his dusty paws with mild surprise. Oh well. he stepped forward, roughly nosing the apprentice's shoulder.
"Get up off the ground; I hate cowards," he growled unceremoniously. "Now. State your business here. And don't try anything. My friend and I could take you with half an eye and no claws."
Friend? I wonder if she agrees. We just started talking, but... who knows?
he twitched his ears. Concentrate, Iceheart.

Featherwhisker watched as the she-cat rose to her paws. She was putting on a brave face despite the fear in her eyes. Featherwhisker couldn't help but stare at the she-cat before her. She looked very familiar. Something distant from her past...
Suddenly Featherwhisker tensed, she knew why she recognized this cat. ...Talon, her dad "You look just like my father." Featherwhisker whispered without realizing it. When she did let out a little squeak. "Sorry!" She felt hot under her skin. The resemblance between the two was uncanny. The same fur, same figure... the only thing different was they eyes... her mothers eyes. Featherwhisker looked away. There was no way... impossible.
"What is your name?" She asked the she-cat, still avoiding Iceheart and the apprentice's eyes. Maybe if the cat didn't seem too intimidated... maybe it would be easier to get information out of her.
((OOC: ugh, I'm so sorry. I can't post with Auburnpaw very well. I'm not well with really shy cats under pressure. This is why this is in Featherwhisker's POV. Sorry about the side story. Unknown to Featherwhisker and Ashflame (feather's sister), Auburnpaw is also their sister... I couldn't figure out what else to write... I may redo this tomo morning. I'm too tired right now T.T Umm... maybe Iceheart can say something next, then I'll do a very quick Auburn post, answering Featherwhisker and Iceheart's questions... then Swifty pops outa no where? x____X im tired xD))

ooc -- Sounds good to me. And don't worry about it. xD The post wasn't bad. Iceheart felt some of the tension leave his body as the she-cat under interrogation rose to her paws. she still looked afraid -- as she should be! -- but at least she was trying to be the brave FireClan cat. he glanced at Featherwhisker, who seemed to be staring at the reddish-brown she-cat intently.
she said something entirely unexpected, something that made Iceheart blink in surprise. "You look just like my father," she said quietly, as if stunned. he jerked his gaze to her, confusion ringing in his head.
"What?" he asked, before he could stop himself. He looked back at the she-cat. "You two don't look anything alike, that I can see," he said randomly, uncomfortable all of a sudden. What the hell's going on here?
then, thankfully, Featherwhisker seemed to come to her senses. "What is your name?"
Iceheart felt a shiver of unease leave his body, though he was still confused. he nodded sternly, glaring at the she-cat with new eyes. Is Featherwhisker from a different Clan? Or... what? I know so little about her, and she's my Clanmate, for StarClan's sake!
"Answer us," he growled, trying to put his intimidating face back on.

Auburnpaw blinked in shock as the female of the two warriors muttered something about Auburnpaw looking like her father. What? Was it possible? Her adoptive father in FireClan had told her that she wasn't FireClan born, and she had accepted this, but he had never mentioned other kits.
"My name is Auburnpaw." She mewed, looking towards the tom again. "and my business is my own." She looked back towards the other of the two. "What did you say about me and your father?"
She silver gray she-cat did not answer at first. "Please..." Auburnpaw had always wanted to know who her real family was.
"My business is my own." The she-cat mimicked her words and Auburnpaw flinced. The she-cats blue eyes were kind.
"My name is Featherwhisker," and with a quick glance at her clanmate she said, "and this is my friend Iceheart." Featherwhisker stepped closer. "I think we have the right to know why you were crossing through our territory."

"And it's better if you speak it, before the tention get's worse."
A voice spoke from behind the two young warriors, it's tone calm but firm. A dim shadow seemed to slightly mark the moving grass as a form of another warrior appeared with its long black tail swaying in amusement. It was Swiftpelt, a senior warrior of DawnClan and one of the fastest toms in the clan. Taking advange of the downwind, the tan and black tom caught the scent of Featherwhisker while hunting with a few warriors. His clanmates however, were already heading home and failed to catch the scent of yet another cat within the area.
That and the noise that eccoed through the moor, scaring away every prey into their Hole! Even though he would of left it alone, he just couldn't bring himself to leave the young warriors with something that could spark a feud between both clans. So! Here he was, padding toward Featherwhisker and Iceheart with a calm smile on his black muzzle. His black paws led him a few steps before stopping behind them and with his ice blue eyes, glanced down at the inturder. A FireClan Apprentice? Swiftpelt thought, his black ears twitching a bit in wonder. Why would FireClan send an Apprentice to our lands? Are they Mouse Brained?
Closing his eyes and shaing his head slightly, the tan and black warrior padded around them before stopping just a few mouse leagths behind Auburnpaw with his long black tail close to the ground. His icy blue eyes opened a bit, looking up to the silverpelt before turning his head to the FireClan she-cat and sighed. "Featherwhisker and Iceheart. Don't be too rash on the kit." He spoke, refering to how scared and weak the she-cat was. Swiftpelt let his eyes fall on Auburnpaw with a calm look in them, sitting down slowly with his tail wrapping around his paws. "But I would tell them if I was you, because I just lost my catch and I'm trying to be in a Good mood." He firmly added, his voice slightly edged on those last words.

Iceheart let out a growl of irritation as Featherwhisker rationalized with the young apprentice. What kind of friendly conversation happened on enemy grounds, with an enemy warrior?
Not one Iceheart wanted to be a part of. Freaking FireClan... he lashed his tail once, though he struggled to keep his face mild.
Enemy apprentice; not even a warrior, he thought briefly.
"This is all very... interesting," he meowed gruffly, glancing at Featherwhisker, "but... shouldn't we do something about this?"
A new scent cut through -- one that was well-known to DawnClan warriors. Swiftpelt, who poked his head through the grass with a calm expression on his face, warranted a dipping of Iceheart's head.
"Featherwhisker and Iceheart. Don't be too rash on the kit."
"Fine," he muttered, struggling to be respectful and still look tough. He glanced at Auburnpaw, who had the nerve to tell them that her business was none of their's. "But I don't know if I'll be able to keep my cool if something doesn't happen soon."

Featherwhisker couldn't help but roll her eyes at the two toms before her. "Honestly you two." She mewed. "She's just an apprentice." The silver-gray she cat looked around.
Featherwhisker watched her old mentor. He was usually laid back and quite bland about a little issue like this. Featherwhisker wondered if there was something else on the tom's mind. "Swiftpelt, It's not the first time an apprentice as wandered onto another's territory. As you should remember." She said, remembering the time she had met Nettlepaw across the border and gotten caught.
"But since you are the senior warrior here... it is your choice on what to do."
Poorly written post is poor. Oh well. I wasn't sure where to go with this post.

"She's just an apprentice"
Swiftpelt flicked his ears back, smiling a bit at the tone that Featherwhisker gave them and closed his icy blue eyes with a slow nod. Ah. His once young apprentice now a full grown warrior, which marked that he himself was slowly getting older and wiser with each passing moon. Not to mention lazier. He thought, his whiskers twitching in amusement as his eyes opened to Auburnpaw. He couldn't help but chuckle a bit as his former apprentice reminded him about that day with the MoonClan apprentice.
"I know, Featherwhisker." Swiftpelt spoke, his long black tail uncurling itself until it was behind him and glanced at Iceheart with a smirk. "Since that day, I wondered why clans fight over so many things." He added, his voice hinted slightly on amusment and waved his tail a bit on Featherwhisker's words. Falling silent for the moment, his eyes focused on the moon as he went in thought with his tail suddenly frozen in one place. Now..even if we bring the she-cat to our camp, it would strike an uproar between both DawnClan and FireClan. Swiftpelt's focus swayed elsewhere, suddenly jumping on all fours with his tail lashing a bit.
But! We can avoid all that Mouse-brained stuff if we take the apprentice back to the FireClan border. Sheesh, if only that were so simple. He complained in his mind, moving foward a few pawsteps before silently nodding to himself. Yup. Let's just make this quick. Turning to the two young warriors, Swiftpelt let his tail wave a bit before speaking in a calm tone.
"Alright. We're taking the apprentice back to FireClan's border. But we have to be quick about it, OK Featherwhisker and Iceheart?" He ended, his voice more toward Featherwhisker due to what happened last time. His tail lashed once, before turning around to begin his pace.

"She's just an apprentice."
the dark tomcat sighed. he was certainly outvoted. and, he supposed that the apprentice proved no threat to their grounds; if Featherwhisker didn't think anything was truly wrong, it was probably true.
But I'm definitely not losing face, he thought, and dipped his head to honor Swiftpelt's request.
however, he lifted his lip and looked back at Auburnpaw. "Even if you were a full-grown warrior, you wouldn't be a threat," he growled, humor icing his rough words. "Scared as a little mouse!"
"Alright. We're taking the apprentice back to FireClan's border. But we have to be quick about it, OK Featherwhisker and Iceheart?"
he shook his head, resigned, and nodded to Swiftpelt. "Yes, please, let's get this over with! The stink of FireClan is a bit more than I bargained for on a night like this!"

Featherwhisker let out a breath she had not realized she had been holding. The conflict had past, hopefully this she-cat wouldn't travel through Dawnclan territory again.
At Iceheart's words Featherwhisker purred and flicked his ear with her tail. "I'll race you back to camp once we drop off the apprentice." She murmered in his ear, eyes shining. "Or we could continue our..." Featherwhisker laughed. "hunt." If they could call it that. They had both scared the prey away for miles around.
Featherwhisker's blue eyes travelled towards the auburn coloured apprentice. It had to be just a coincidence that the she-cat looked so similar to her father... there was no possible way that he had fathered another kit so close to Featherwhisker's age.

he flicked his tail, trying to hide his pleasure at Featherwhisker's offer. his negative feelings slipped away, and he didn't even realize that they were gone.
instead, he nodded, his sharp green eyes twinkling. "We can continue our 'hunt'," he said, purring in a rough, rusty voice, "and then I can beat you in a race back to camp."
he almost forgot that Auburnpaw was there.
almost.
until he caught the surreptitious, thoughtful glance that Featherwhisker gave her. What's going on there? he thought hazily. That was a super weird confrontation. That's for sure.

Featherwhisker quickly averted her eyes from the apprentice when she noticed Iceheart's green gaze. "Maybe we'll actually catch something this time. Have you improved at running silently?" She laughed. "Because you'll scare all the prey away from here to MistClan." She teased.
Featherwhisker felt her heart lift up with happiness. He was, despite the FireClan she-cat near them, loosening up again. She preferred him when he wasn't fluffed up and defensive. But at the same time, Featherwhisker admired his courage to leap into battle without a second thought. He was a true warrior. Other DawnClan warriors should learn a thing or two from him.
She licked his cheek in affection. "Keep dreaming Iceheart, I'm going to beat you by ages."

"Me? Are you kidding? My run is perfection defined," he meowed, pretending to be offended. honestly, the teasing pleased him. he loved to argue, after all, even if it was play-arguing.
limbs loosening, heart getting lighter, he realized he'd much rather run and play around with Featherwhisker under the moonlight than go back to camp and do what amounted to nothing until dawn patrols started.
and the apprentice from FireClan? that was simply a strange coincidence. a stroke of oddly bad luck -- but not entirely bad. he almost completely forgot that they were escorting her back to her territory. and when Featherwhisker licked his cheek, he blushed under his fur. a color akin to blood, probably, but he ignored it.
"Me! By ages! Oh, Featherwhisker, you've got a surprise waiting for you," he promised, a chuckle escaping his jaws.

Featherwhisker snorted. "Perfectly defined?" She asked. "You run like a three legged badger!" The easy banter, surprisingly easy, was putting Featherwhisker at ease. Every worry, every emotion, every problem was put to rest while she was bickering with the tom.
Any thoughts she had about Ashflame, Nettlepaw, her father... all were gone as she gazed up at the slightly taller tom. Ignoring the warning signals going off in her head, the ones that told her not to get too attached to the tom, she let out a loud purr. Despite her efforts, there was still a lingering thought flashing through her mind. Love is not real, it's fake. It never lasts. Her mother and father had taught her this. She should listen to it, Iceheart might only break her heart. Something could destroy the family... destroy her...
Then Featherwhisker blinked in shock. She was thinking too far ahead. Love? Iceheart as a mate? She had only just gotten to know him. She was sure that he only saw her as a friend.
Iceheart was becoming a great friend. Nothing more... She would not allow her self to be hurt by something she swore she would never believe in.
"Yes by ages, it will be leaf-bare by the time you catch up." She laughed in bliss.

Iceheart couldn't help but shake his head, mock indignation apparent in his face.
"Try a swan across a freezing lake, darling," he replied, pasting a scowl on his maw. "Well, if it'll be leaf-bare by the time we get there, I suppose that metaphor works, doesn't it!"
he also noticed that Featherwhisker seemed trapped in her head again. was she thinking about Auburnpaw, or...? he wasn't sure. he would never ask -- anything that she wanted to tell him would eventually be told, after all.
but he couldn't help but think he liked this she-cat quite a bit. he wasn't sure what the feelings could be named, but he knew most she-cats didn't cause him to cheer up like this. his usual prickly demeanor was softened into almost silk by Featherwhisker. it took a miracle, he supposed.
Well... she's a nice cat, he thought, somewhat uncomfortably. I'm sure it's a weird coincidence. It's not like I, y'know, like like her, or anything. And there's not a chance in hell she'd ever like me! She's way too good for me.
he tried not to sigh. it was a pity, but it was true. anyways, they'd just gotten to know each other! friendship was what they had now. why ruin it with awkward words?
not a chance. he knew from the past that you had to take what you had when you had it, before it was gone.
and he intended to do just that.

Featherwhisker could no longer hold back, her continuous purr turned suddenly into a bout of laughter that was hard to control. "You? As graceful as a swan?" She managed between laughter. She smiled and flicked her tail across his muzzle. "I don't think so." She pranced ahead of him a few fox-lengths before turning her head towards him. "I, on the other hand, am the most graceful warrior there ever was. StarClan bows down to me in awe"
Her light-heartedness was getting to her head, because for a moment she though that Iceheart might like her back. She pushed this thought to the back of her mind. Iceheart was a great friend, her first true one within DawnClan.
She watched the powerful tom with curious eyes. What was he thinking behind those beautiful green eyes. Was there something deeper than the agressive, protective warrior, and the laughing friend?
Featherwhisker glanced towards the sky, the clouds were finally breaking, revealing soft stars in patches. The moon was also showing off to her right where it's yellow glow was comforting. The stars proved that StarClan was watching over her. Maybe not right now, but it was comforting to think about anyway.
