The sun was glowing a brilliant orange up in the sky. The tendrils of light coming off of it were faded yellowish-red, and they matched the color of the grass as their light seemed to set the scene ablaze as the sun sank behind the hills. Ravenkit could smell the familiar scent of his father and see his warm blue eyes sending him comfort. Then his father nudged him over to his aunt and turned to leave. His aunt, Tabbypelt, picked him up and started to move quickly towards their new home.
And then he came for them.
The face of the killer was burned into his mind, and he would never forget it. Couldn't forget it. The blood stained the grass as he ran as fast as his legs allowed and as far as he could go until they ached and became numb. The fear that engulfed him was still fresh and the memories were as clear as if they were yesterday's happenings. He had been denied his place with his father in MoonClan and now he lived in this place. His family had all left him behind. And there was nobody of his new clan, MistClan, to be there for him. They all felt his presence, but it was as though he was not there. For them he was a story and nothing more.
Ravenkit lowered his eyes and watched the ground his shoulders were tense and stiff. He let himself be washed away in the flow of bitterness and regret. That was the only way to heal himself, was to allow the overwhelming memories to sweep him away and keep
an eye on the shore as he did. Maybe today he would find a friend or learn something new. He told himself this every day. That there might be a change and things would turn around. But he was losing hope and losing his will. "No" he growled. "Today will be different." he could not help but wonder if he believed his own words or if he was trying to convince his conscience of the truth in them as he said them aloud.
