Whispersong sat all by herself in a dark corner in camp. Her dark eyes looked over the cats running in and out of the tunnels, kits tackling eachother outside of the nursery and friends sharing tongues by the fresh kill pile. She silently sighed to herself. She thought back to the time when she actually had friends. But she barley talked to them now. Not after the incident. She realized that now, she could never get motivated to actually do something. She patroled, hunted, ate, slept, fought. That's it. No laughter, no love. She turned herself away from the camp and faced a rock wall. Her only friend. She heard someone approach from behind, smelled a somewhat familiar scent. Swiftpelt. She sighed hoping she wouldn't have to talk much. Turning around she gave him a small smile and flicked her tail, hoping he could just spit out what ever words he was going to say.

As always, the sun shined brightly on their camp and life was busy. Swiftpelt had just finished his hunting, padding over to the fresh kill pile and dropped two rabbits on a fresh mouse. The tan and black tom raised his head to look around, his ice blue eyes scanning the camp with a wave of his long black tail. The kits were playing next to the Nursery, pawing each other and laughing. Swiftpelt smiled, glad that his clan was getting along. But as he ice blue eyes looked on, he couldn't help but noice a she-cat, hiding in the shadows and tilted his head to one side.
"Whispersong." He meowed to himself, watching the she-cat a moment longer before padded toward her with a flick of his tail. He never talked much to she-cats, ones that made too much of a fuss and made him turn away. Even ones who were beautiful, he would just past by them or freeze up. But Swiftpelt didn't really feel right, seeing a she-cat sad or depressed. As he came toward Whispersong, the she-cat turned to face the tom and Swiftpelt almost stopped in his tracks. Whispersong's eyes would spook some toms into turning away, but for some odd reason, Swiftpelt thought of her eyes more welcoming then fear. "Hello Whispersong." He purred softly, waving his long black tail in the windless air."How are you on...this lovely morning?" He asked, even though he had paused in order to think of something.

Whispersong blinked. Why would anyone just be talking to her? Just to say 'Good morning'? She was too quiet no one ever wanted to talk to her. "How am I?" She said aloud. She pondered over this and thought about it. "I guess I am okay. And you?" She curled her tail around her paws. 'And you?' What was she thinking?! Now the conversation woud take longer than she wanted it to. But there was something about this tom....she wanted to hear him talk to her, wanted him to share his thoughts. She tilted her head to the side and waited for him to respond. The more and more she thought about it, the more and more she wanted him to sit down and talk all morning.

Swiftpelt smiled a bit, his tail stopped moving for a moment and his ears flicked back. "Me? Well....I'm ok. If you count almost tripping over a rabbit hole." He chuckled, feeling oddly calm around the she-cat but still had that feeling of freezing up. Trying not to think about it, the tom looked down at his black paws and sighed.
"So...why don't we head out to the Moorland?" Swiftpelt meowed, looking up at the she-cat again with a small smile and flicked his ears back. It was better there anyway, since the Moorland was quiet and more peaceful. Plus, it was the only place he could really think without other cats looking at him."I mean..If that's ok with you, Whispersong." He added, almost freezing up again.

Whispersong sighed. Then, without thinking stood up and walked out of camp. She poked her head out of the entrance and said, "Well are you coming?" with a twinkle in her eyes. She kept on telling herslef that she was crazy and that she never acted like this, but the quiet voices in her head didn't stop her from looking behind her to check that Swiftpelt was there as she raced across the moorland. She almost laughed out loud. Almost. But then old, terrifying memories flashed back into her head and dampened the mood. She shook her head forcing bad memories away.

Huh? Swiftpelt thought, nearly caught by surprize as Whispersong walked out of camp and left the tan and black tom with wide eyes. He was stunted for a moment, his tail unmoving and his ice blue eyes in total shock. Did I do something wrong? Before he could answer himself, the young tom blicked as the she-cat poked her head out of the entrance and spoke with a spark in her eyes.
"Well, are you coming?"
For a second, Swiftpelt was frozen, his legs refused to move and his body felt like locking up. No! Not now! Come one Swifty, get a hold of yourself! The tom thought, shaking his head and found himself bounding out of camp, running after the she-cat with a smile on his face. The Moorland, the heart and soul of his clan. The tan and black tom came to Whispersong's side, keeping pace with her as they raced across the grassland and for a spilt second, he almost saw the she-cat laugh. He smiled wider, but his smiled vaished as the she-cat's eyes dimed and couldn't help but ask a question as they ran.
"Is something wrong, Whispersong?"

Whispersong slowed down a bit and felt her fur fall back into place. "No, nothing." She said being very vague. She slowed down a bit more. "What do you want to do? Hunt? Swim?" She chuckled to hereself. Every cat in the clan knew he hated water, even quiet Whispersong. She desperatley wanted to change the subject. The past was over, behind her. She wanted to live the present and completley forget the past.
Whisper song saw a lone small tree out along the Dawn clan border. She decided to steer herself towards the tree, it was quite hot, some shade would be nice.

Swiftpelt slowed as well, the fur on his sides losing the flowing wind and he slowly tilted his head to look at Whispersong better. For a moment, the tan and black tom could see sadness in her dark eyes and for a spilt second, he wanted to confort the gray she-cat. But the tom was unsure about this, wondering if she would yowl at him or claw him for trying. So he just kept it in his mind, until he knew it was right.
Hearing Whispersong's words, the tan and black tom lashed his long black tail and blicked his eyes in shock. "Swim! No way! Not me!" Swiftpelt responded, smiling with a short purr. His clan knew that he hated water, but the true is...he can't swim. Shaking that from his mind, he noiced Whispersong head to a small tree and quickly padded up to join her.
"Nah...I was just thinking about getting away from camp for a while, you know, just....relax abit." Swiftpelt almost studdered, reaching the small tree and found a spot to sit under it. Sitting down, her curled his long tail around his paws and stared at the she-cat for a moment, for once shocked. Whispersong was the most quietest she-cat in his clan, but her beauty...why couldn't he noice that before? Blicking his sky blue eyes, he could only guess that his clanmates never told him about the she-cat and never really cared. After what seemed like a moon to him, he tilted his head and smiled once again.
"So...Have you ever thought about...you know...being with someone?" Swiftpelt asked, unsure about what Whispersong reaction would be.

Whispersong leaned against the tree and closed her eyes. She thought about what Swiftpelt had just said. "No, I prefer to keep to myself. I never really hang out with anyone. I don't really have friends. " She replied not quite understanding what he was asking. A strong breeze rustles the leaves in the tree above them and ruffled her fur. "You have some friends though don't you? I mean I still don't understand why you are talking to me. No one ever does. Not that I encourage them to. I just prefer to be silent....after the incident."

She sure is calm about things....I wonder why? Swiftpelt thought, watching the gray she-cat with his left ear flicking back. He listened to every word that Whispersong said, paying close attantion and kept calm."Well....You have me." He purred, not phased by her tone and slowly rose to his paws, his tail uncurling until it was behind him.
"And my friends? They don't really talk to me much. If they do, they act like Mousebrains" Swiftpelt chuckled, slowly moving over to the she-cat in a calm manner. He felt the wind blow against the tree, his pelt flowed in the same way as the sat beside Whispersong and slowly swiped his tail over the she-cat's ears. "I chose to talk to you, not because of them. I chose to, because I wanted to." He spoke softly, feeling more calm around the gray she-cat and flciked his ears back.
"What incident?" Swiftpelt asked, his ice blue eyes sparked with worry. But he had to ask himself, Does She like him...the same way he did.

With his touch Whispersong got chills. She experienced a moment of happiness that she hadn't felt in a long time. But at his last words her mood turned dark. She decided that there was no hurt in telling him the truth. " when I was a young apprentice, I decided to go out hunting by myself. I strayed way out of boundry lines and witnessed a cat brutally murder another. I was so scared. All I remember is dropping my rabbit and running. Ever since that day I stopped speaking. I have nightmares that haunt me at night and it has been many many moons but I still cannot escape what I saw. My mouth clamped shut since then. Now I barley speak a whisper." Whispersong took a shakyy breath and tried to erase the memories.

"Whispersong..." Swiftpelt spoke, his ice blue eyes dimmed alittle and slowly rose his tail, laying it on the gray she-cat's shoulder. He felt bad, hearing the she-cat go through this without anyone to be beside her and seeing the horrors of another clan kill their own. Slowly, he brought his nose close to Whispersong's and touched noses with hers. Then with a flick of his ears, withdrew slowly and blicked.
"Whispersong....I wish I was there with you." Swiftpelt meowed, sighing and slowly looked up to the tree's leaves."If you want, I have a spot open next to me if you want to sleep tonight. I just...don't want to see you upset or...you know..afraid." He added, even thought he studdered on a few words and showed a small smile on his face. Tilting his head, he couldn't help but purr alittle, seeing Whispersong's eyes made him feel more...sure about himself and calm as well.
"If..you ever need someone to talk...to get away from it all, I will always be up for it, Whispersong." Swiftpelt meowed, his voice calm and sure, lifting his long tail off her shoulder and let it fall to the ground.

Whispersong felt the familiar sting of tears in her eyes but was comforted by Swiftpelts words. "I'd... I'd like that. Sometimes I'll wake up in the night, and no ones there. No ones ever there..." her voice drifted off and she came back to reality. "Trust me you would not want tohave been there. I'm glad that I am the only cat who has ever had to go through this. No cat should deal with this much pain. " Whispersong wished he hadn't moved his tail. He was warm and his fur was very soft, the brush of his aginst hers was comforting. She sat up and stretched. "Lets walk now, I need to move." she gave him a small smile tries to forget about the previous conversation.

Swiftpelt smiled for a moment, feeling alittle better that he was able to comfert the gray warrior and rose to his paws with a flick of his long black tail."Ok, then. I know a good place that we can go." He purred, moving a few steps ahead of Whispersong before looking over his shoulder and smirked.
"I know I won't like it. But it's better then being in the heat." Swiftpelt meowed, waving his tail in ther air and waited for Whispersong to come along.
( Sorry for it being short...but I had a writer's block.)

"Okay." She stood up and shook her fur, treading after the handsome warrior. She wondered exactly where he was taking her, she wondered if it had anything to do with water. A small smile spread on her lips at the thought of Swiftpelt getting wet. She almost laughed out loud, all haunting thoughts forgotten. She kept up his brisk pace and walked along side of him. Another light breeze blew across the moor and it lightened her mood, also made the air a bit cooler too, the afternoon heat was almost too hot to bear. She smiled again.

Padding at a steady pace, Swiftpelt traveled through the tall grass that kept them hidden from prey when hunting. Flicking his ears back, he turned his head slightly to look at Whispersong, padding beside him with each step. He was indeed starting to have feelings, feelings about her that even he didn't know himself and with a slient purr, turned his head to the path ahead of them. Before they reached the place, Swiftpelt could smell the scent of water and couldn't help but shiver alittle. Within a few more mouse leagths, they reached a small river that flowed between DawnClan and FireClan. Twitching his tail, the tan and black turned to the gray she-cat with a small but visable smile.
"Well, It's alittle cooler at least." Swiftpelt meowed, marking the ground with his right paw.

Whispersong nodded. The air was much cooler. She sat down right on the riverbed, the damp earth fluffing her fur. She dipped her tail into the water, submerging only the tip. She moved her fluffy tail back and forth swishing the water around. A coy smile spread across her lips. She flicked her tail up and water droplets sprayed the air around her. She looked over at swiftpelt. "I hear you don't like water?" she swished her tail around some more. It was surprising how just a little bit of the water soothed the tension of the heat. She studied Swiftpelt with twinkling blue eyes.

Swiftpelt started to follow Whispersong, slowly taking one step at another but couldn't bring himself to be near the she-cat when around water. Water was indeed his biggest fear and because of that, he shirk back alittle with his eyes slightly glazed with fear. He longed to sit down with the beautiful she-cat, enjoying her company and warmth. But why can't he fight this fear, being next to water or even worse, drowning. Sighing at this, the tan and black tom sat down, halfway from the river and looked down to the ground.
"Yea...I am...very afraid..of w-water." He meowed sadly, looking up at Whispersong again and tilted his head alittle. He noiced that Whispersong's eyes that were once dark gray, now glowed a beautiful river blue. She looks, like a she-cat of water. Swiftpelt thought, smiling alittle and waved his long black tail in the air.

Whispersong held her smile. She flicked her tail and water droplets showered down on Swiftpelt and the grass around them. "But what if it rains?" she asked innocently, enjoying the cool spray of the water. "After all you are a cat of the moor. Do you hide in a den all day?" she asked teasingly. She stood up and moved closer to him. She even brushed off some water that landed on his whiskers. "Sorry, couldn't help myself." she sat down close. Whispersong studied the water and watched the way it flowed over the rocks and sweet, relaxing sound that echoed around her.

Swiftpelt couldn't help but wince as the shower of water fell upon him, nearly making him want to take off running but forced himself to stay where he was. "Believe me, I would like to be out in the rain...but I just can't get past it." He confessed, shaking his head alittle to get some of the water off him and let out a long sigh.
He couldn't forget the last time he almost drowned, once being an Apprentice and wanted to try something new. He wondered why MistClan was able to swim....too bad he almost lost his life to it and had to be saved by his mentor. A horrible memory, best left behind. Swiftpelt thought, sighing again and raising his head to find Whispersong brushing her tail against his whiskers, flicking the few drops that he had missed. Purring alittle, he watched as the gray she-cat sat next to him and slowly let his tail touch hers.
"If you don't mind....could you maybe...help me get over this..you know...fear?" He meowed slyly, lowering his ears back alittle and sighed.

Whispersong smiled and silently nodded her head. She then cleared her brain, silently scolding herself. Say something! Don't be so shy again!
"Well, beleive it or not...I actually do know how to swim. Being that I am a quiet cat, I had a lot of time to myself. It's actually not that hard. I would love to help you get over your fear of water." She smiled at him sweetly. "Dont be a such a scardey cat! Lets just start with getting your whiskers wet." She walked over to the waters edge. She looked back at Swiftpelt. "Don't worry I'll protect from you!" she quietly giggled.

"I can't help it if I'm a Scaredy Cat!" Swiftpelt mewed loudly, his ice blue eyes flashed with anger but quickly replaced with regret and sighed. She is only trying to help stupid! Quit being a mouse brain get up there! He thought, flicking his ears back and slowly rose to his paws with a wave of his long tail. Step after paw step, the tan and black tom slowly moved closer to Whispersong and his body jerked a few times, as if his fear trying to pull him back.
After a few more paw steps, Swiftpelt stood next to Whispersong with his eyes glancing at the water, then back at Whispersong with a slight fear showing within them. "You..sure about this?" He meowed, even though his voice was low.

Whispersong threw her head back and laughed. "It was your idea." She reminded him. She looked closely at Swiftpelt. He looked terrified. "Hey, listen you dont have to do this." She told him her voice turning soft. Her eyes probed his face, picking up his emotions. It suddenly turned very quiet. She couild hear the soft flow of the water and birds cooing in the distance. She gave him a small smile. "It's just water. And, it can feel good on your fur." "Come on, you can do this Swiftpelt!" Whispersong exclaimed with silent confidence. She took a step closer to the stream.

Somehow in an odd why, Swiftpelt felt alittle better as he heard Whispersong soft voice and waved his long tail. Yes, it was his idea to face his fear and challange his will against water but at the same time, wishing that he could take it back and act like it never happened. Breathing in slowly, the tom slowly took another step toward the stream with his ice blue eyes calming somewhat and suddenly wanted to ask the she-cat something. Turning his head, he stared into Whispersong's eyes and asked the same question that he had asked once before at the Tree.
"Have you ever wanted to be with someone, someone you liked?" Swiftpelt spoke softly, his eyes more focused then normal.

Whispersong stopped cold. She slowly took in his words and finally understood them. She sighed and leaned into her back paws. "No, I haven't. I have always been alone, I always thought it would be like that forever. I can't say that I hadn't wished for someone at one point or another but I've slowly understood the fact that a cat like me stays lonely." Her eyes stared at the ground. Her voice broke off at the end. She took in the fact that Swiftpelt was with her right now asking her this question. She shut her eyes and awaited his response.

"Whispersong." Swiftpelt meowed, lowering his head to the she-cat's level and nudged her in the ear with his nose."Have you ever thought...that I might like you?" He purred, looking at the water for the moment and without a second thought, dipped his long black tail into the water and flicked it on Whispersong with a laugh. "Besides, your never alone. You have me, don't you?" He asked, smiling alittle and let his tail fall onto Whispersong's shoulder. The tan and black tom tilted his head to look at the sky, his eyes glowing bright with warmth and his smile grew even wider.

Whispersong flicked her head back in shock from the spray of the water. She started to laugh and flicked some water on him, hoping he wouldn't flinch. "Oh yeah I got you babe!" She pranced into the water and went up to her belly fur. "Oh yes, I have you.....so why dont you join me?" She asked with a twinkle in her eye. The sun shone down on her gray fur and made the water sparkle. The air was still as if waiting for Swiftpelts decision. Nothing moved, Nothing made a sound. The water laped gently at the bank.

"Hey!!" Swiftpelt laughed, suddenly forgeting was he was afraid of water and shook his head and a grunt. Opening his eyes, he saw Whispersong move into the water and felt a jolt up his spine as fear inched his way back to his mind. He unsteathed his claws and dug them into the ground, his eyes seemed more focused then before with his tail waving slowly, then stops.
Don't even think about it, just go for it...Just go! Lowering his ears abit, Swiftpelt steathed his claws and rose from his crouch, looking stronger and more at ease. Blicking his eyes, he slowly put one paw into the water and fliched abit. Getting use to it, he moved forward until he was close to the she-cat, his belly fur now wet with water.
"I mean it....But do you..really...like me?" Swiftpelt meowed, smiling abit with another splash of water with his paw and tilted his head to one side. Water can't stop me...As long as I'm with you.

Whispersong gasped with delight when she saw her new friend enter the water. She felt vey proud and was amazed at his bravery. When he got his belly fur wet she couldn't help but smile. His words echoed in her head. "Of course I like you, you mousebrain!" Her voice grew softer. "Of Course." She gave him a soft lick on the nose. She looked him right in the eyes and smiled wider than she ever has, even in her kit days. "Now, come on lets get out of the water before you drown." She gave him a wink and waded out of the water laying down on the shore.
