Clear Skies (Open)

[Diria]

Onyxpaw woke from his sleep. The sunlight pored into the apprentices den from the outside. It was morning already, it was time to get up for the new day.

With that, Onyxpaw lazily picked himself up and padded out into the clearing. He glanced over to the fresh kill pile. It was fairly large. He walked over and took a rabbit from the pile. Then he found a spot and ate the fresh kill. It tasted good. He would have to be sure to go hunting, so long as it was ok with Pantherclaw.

When he finished the rabbit, he got up. The sky was clear today.

"Good morning," a voice rumbled from behind Onyxpaw. A jet black tom stood behind Onxypaw, his head nodding in greeting. Though no smile of greeting showed upon the toms face, his yellow eyes were quite friendly.
"Ready to go training?"Pantherclaw asked his apprentice flicking his tail slightly.

Onyxpaw jumped at the voice. He turned to see Pantherclaw standing behind him. Oh, why did I have to get distracted now, he thought to himself.

He looked up at the black tom and smiled. "Good morning Pantherclaw!" Onyxpaw definatly wanted to go train. His pelt was bristling with excitment, but also, Pantherclaw had a serious look on his face. Onyxpaw admired him. He was always looking out for his clan. He hoped that he could look out for the clan as well as Pantherclaw when he was a warrior. How can I when I keep staring off into space? he asked himself. "Yes, I'm ready to train."

[*~Blazeheart~*]

Pantherclaw responded with a curt nod.
"Good,"he mewed.
"Why don't we practice some fighting moves before we hunt,"he suggested, beckoning Onyxpaw to follow him out of camp. The warrior turned swiftly and bounded out of camp, not waiting to see if his apprentice followed. The jet black tom bounded through the the tall grass until arriving in a fairly flat, dusty clearing. He turned around and sat down in the middle, waiting for his apprentice to catch up.

Onyxpaw followed Pantherclaw. He moved swiftly through the tall grass, until he reached a dusty clearing where the grass did not grow. He looked up to see Pantherclaw waiting for him. For how long he did not know. He should work on his speed a little more if he could. Onyxpaw wondered if Pantherclaw was proud of his apprentice, if he was proud of him. He had only been training for one moon though. Ok, I can't get distracted again, he thought to himself. I need to focus or I'll never be a great warrior.

Pantherclaw was quite impressed that his apprentice had caught up. He had barely sat down for a heartbeat before his apprentice burst into the clearing. Not bad for a one moon apprentice.
"Let's get started,"the jet black tom began, getting to his paws. His tail lashed back and forth as his yellow eyes observed his apprentice, as if measuring how much potential his apprentice is.
"Let's see how well your attack pattern is. Attack me,"he meowed, eyes narrowing as he awaited his apprentice.

Onyxpaw studied Pantherclaw. He didn't want to mess up and make Pantherclaw think less of him. He had to attack him, though he also wanted to try to surprise Pantherclaw. He fought off the idea. No, it would be best if I just simply attacked him, Onyxpaw thought to himself. Besides, he knows that I'm about to attack him anyway. He crouched down and started a low growl. A slight breeze appeared at that moment. Onyxpaw ignored it. His only priority right now was to attack Pantherclaw and show him how well he could fight. He lept into the air, heading toward Pantherclaw.

[*~Blazeheart~*]

Pantherclaw mimicked his apprentice, also crouching low and letting out a rumbling growl. His muscles tensed up as he prepared for his apprentice to strike, his weight light on his toes as he prepared to leap too. A head on attack came from his apprentice. The jet black tom became a blur as he swiftly whipped to one side, sliding to the side as his apprentice sailed past.
"Faster!"Pantherclaw growled. The tom raised a forepaw and tried to aim a blow at his apprentice's ear with sheathed claws.

[Diria]

Onyxpaw landed, missing Pantherclaw. He turned towards Pantherclaw. He managed to get a glimpse of his forepaw coming towards him. He ducked hoping that he would avoid getting hit.

"Good, keep your eye on your opponent,"Pantherclaw said as his apprentice quickly dodged his paw blow with quick speed. The jet black tom reared up, facing his apprentice as he towered over the smaller cat.
"Try to unbalance me!"he instructed, forepaws raised as he prepared to crash them down upon his apprentice.
"If not then avoid me! You cannot match my size and strength,"the tom growled, yellow eyes narrowing.

[Diria]

Onyxpaw glared at his mentor. He aimed for Pantherclaws forepaws hoping to knock him over. Moving swiftly, Onyxpaw swiped at his target. Then he replied to Pantherclaws earlier comment. "You may be larger and stronger, but I'm quick."

[*~Blazeheart~*]

Pantherclaw felt his apprentice's swipe against his hind legs, feeling the quick impact slip his paws off the earth. The tom quickly twisted in midair, landing onto all four paws, though he slightly stumbled. Pantherclaw nodded his approval.
"Use that quickness and win,"he added. "Now let's see if you can perfect your agility."
The jet black tom's weight leaned onto his back legs as he prepared to leap. Quick as lighting, his weight switched to his front as he pushed off the ground. Pantherclaw launched himself at Onyxpaw, tucking in his head to barrel into his apprentice.

Onyxpaw stumbled back from his mentors blow. He hissed in frustration. After a moment, Onyxpaw got up and faced his mentor determined to keep training. Then as he stared at Pantherclaw, wondering what he thought of him. "Let me try it again! Please Pantherclaw!"

A hint of a smile crossed his lips. His apprentice was quite persistent, just as he should be.
"Very well,"Pantherclaw agreed, padding away from Onyxpaw to keep a distance between them.
"Be quicker, and don't give your enemy any time to wait and anticipate your attack. Feign attacks if you can. The element of surprise is always best,"the tom advised.
"Now attack me again,"he prompted, lowering himself into a crouch as he waited.

[Diria]

Onyxpaw crouched down and growled. He would get it right this time. He was going to show Pantherclaw that he was a great warrior and then he might be proud of him as Onyxpaw was proud of his mentor. He lept, heading straight for Pantherclaw with claws sheathed.

His apprentice was a lot faster this time. Pantherclaw managed only to tuck his head and turn to the side as his apprentice rammed into his flank. Pantherclaw had to dig his claws into the earth to stop himself from tumbling over, only to skid a few mouse-lengths.
"Good power,"he commended, shaking a bit of dust off his pelt.
"Now it's my turn,"he meowed, launching himself at his apprentice.

Onyxpaw gazed at his mentor. He had to pay close attention to his moves so he would not get hit. He stood, wating for Pantherclaws next move. The wind picked up, blowing through Onyxpaws pelt.

Pantherclaw feigned a paw blow at Onyxpaw's ear before quickly veering to the side and tucking in his head to barrel into his apprentice's flank.

Onyxpaw was sent back by Pantherclaws blows. He regained balance and swiftly moving behind Pantherclaw. He hoped that his mentor wouldn't be able to defend against his next move. He lept once again at Pantherclaw from his spot behind him.

In the midst of his attack, Pantherclaw had only time to register that he had succeeded in tackling his apprentice. However, the furry body his head made contact with suddenly disappered. Before Pantherclaw could figure where his opponent went, an impact from behind sent the black-furred tom crouching low to the ground, feeling Onxypaw's weight pin him on the back.
"Nice move,"Pantherclaw grunted. The black tom reared up, trying to dislodge his apprentice from his back. When that didn't work, Pantherclaw rolled over quickly, trying to squash his apprentice.

[Diria]

Onyxpaw struggled under the weight of his mentor. It was for a moment though it had successfully affected Onyxpaw. He got up, feeling tired from the moves he had done as well as from Pantherclaws blows. He would have to be more careful if he was to win in a real fight. Cautiously, Onyxpaw lept for his opponent once more.

Pantherclaw saw Onyxpaw bunch up his muscles and quickly whipped to one side. He raised his paw to administer a cuff on his apprentice's ear when a scent whiffed past him, making the warrior freeze.
"Stop.."the black tom hissed to his apprentice, dropping back down to all four paws as his yellow eyes narrowed towards the direction where the scent came from. He opened his mouth to draw in the scent again. Rabbit blood....and something else.
A foul scent mingled with the rabbit's blood and in a heartbeat, Pantherclaw recognized the hostile scent. Almost at the same time, a russet-furred creature appeared out of a gorse bush dragging a limp rabbit with its yellow teeth. The creature stopped, ears pricked up as if it sensed something. Its hard amber eyes turned towards the two cats. The fox let out a threatening snarl.

Onyxpaw stopped obediantly. He looked back towards his mentor, confused. It wasn't long after that he caught the scent coming from a gorse bush. "Pantherclaw?" He knew that there was rabbit blood in the scent, but he didn't know what else there was. It was new to him.
Then, he saw the fox emerge from the direction of the scent. Onyxpaw was startled by it, though he did not budge. He had to show Pantherclaw that he was brave, but more improtantly, he and his mentor would have to stop the creature from getting into the camp.

Pantherclaw's fur bristled though he made no sudden movements.
"We'll have to drive it out,"he hissed to his apprentice, a flash of worry that his apprentice isn't experienced enough. But if he and Onyxpaw ran away, there was a chance the fox would follow them.
"Remember what I taught you,"he whispered to Onyxpaw as the fox continued to growl and stalk forward.
Almost instantly, the fox lept forward with a snarl and Pantherclaw mimicked the fox, clashing with it in midair. Pantherclaw managed to sink his teeth into the brute's ear and dig his claws into the back fur. The fox let out a yelp of pain and twisted around, trying to sink its own teeth into Pantherclaw

As the fox tried to sink it's teeth into his mentor, Onyxpaw lept at the creature. He was still filled with fear that he and Pantherclaw would not succeed in bringing the fox down but he also knew that he must try. He had to protect his clan, even if it costed him his life. When he was close enough to the fox, Onyxpaw swiped at its forelegs hoping to through it off balance. After he did, the fox turned its attention to Onyxpaw though still trying to attck Pantherclaw.

A flash of white, a shimmer of gold, a streak of brown, a leap unbound..

Skyleaper had been trying again, he tried and failed again, but would never give up. He looked towards the sky, so gentle and clear, how could he not love it. In his mind life was not measured in the breathes we take but in the moments that take our breath away, and he only felt that when he was trying to fly, he knew it from when he was born, even his mother had known why else would she name him Skykit? Skyleaper smiled happily, he was going to fly, he knew he was!

Skyleaper padded to another tree, he climbed up it easily, balancing easily on his haunches. He backed up close to the bark and then ran swiftly leaping off into the air. He only went a little while before falling, what he didn't except was to actually land on something soft. He blinked and looked around seeing Onyxpaw and Pantherclaw, "Hi guys!!" He meowed happily, it was only then that he noticed what he had landed on, orange fur shuddered underneath him, "Eeep a fox!" he said jumping off swiftly.

Onyxpaw was sent flying back by the fox. How was he and Pantherclaw supposed to defeat it? He heard a voice greeting him and Pantherclaw then a snarl. He looked back to see Skyleaper. Confused, he got up. When did Skyleaper arrive? He stared back at the fox. He hoped that the three of them could beat the creature before it got to the camp.
It snarled at him. Onyxpaw edged closer towards it. He lept, hitting the fox as he landded. The fox then sent him back again and attempted to bite him.

Pantherclaw quickly dodged the snapping jaw, seeing his apprentice attack from the corner of his eyes. He silently thanked his apprentice's help with a flick of his tail, though he kept his eyes on the savage fox. As he darted in to aim a claw blow at the russet brute, a flying furball suddenly landed on top of the fox.
"What in the name of Starclan?!"Pantherclaw yelped, leaping back. His eyes widened to see his clanmate Skyleaper.
"What're you-?"the black tom began before the fox's snarl snapped his attention again. Pushing Skyleaper's unexpected appearance away from his mind, Pantherclaw lept at the fox and buried his teeth into its ears, raking his claws down its flank.

[Diria]

Dodging the fox, Onyxpaw lept to the side. As soon as the creature passed he quickly got some distance between them. He saw Pantherclaw attack the fox. He needed to help, he needed to find a way to finish the fox quickly before it killed one of them. He rushed towards it, still carefull of its movements. Onyxpaw swiped at it, trying to get at its side. Then he lept onto it, tearing his claws into the fox causing it to yelp. He immediately moved away from it. The creature snarled at him. Onyxpaw suddenly felt discouraged. What would happen if they couldn't defeat it soon?

Pantherclaw quickly lept at the fox before it could harm his apprentice. He lashed out his claws at its narrow muzzle. The fox yelped out and turned its hostile eyes towards the black-furred warrior. Pantherclaw hissed in its face, swiping his claws at its forehead. The fox snarled as blood from the wound trickled down into its eyes. It lunged at Pantherclaw with snapping teeth. The cat quickly swerved away, narrowing missing the sharp daggers that lined the fox's jaw.
"Aim for its head. It can't fight forever,"Pantherclaw yowled to the others.
